Chapter 21
Ryan leaned closer to the rearview mirror and stroked his chin.
Ignoring him, Horacio looked ahead at the taxi and stepped on the gas unhurriedly.
“Hey, I heard you charged a client ten times your usual rate at noon. It must be a messy case, huh? Everyone in the firm is talking about it.” Ryan leaned against the seat and looked at him.
It was the first time Horacio had ever asked for more money.
Finally, Horacio parted his lips. “The Lombard family case.
“OK… Wait, what?”
Ryan immediately sat upright. “That’s closed already, right? The family’s son is locked up in jail, and they paid the victims. The case dragged on for more than six months back then. Why would it be reopened?”
Horacio glanced at the traffic light.
It was turning red in three seconds.
He hit the gas.
“Who was the client? Ms. Lombard? She’s engaged to Mr. Phelan, right? Why didn’t she go to Monarch Law Firm?”
Ryan snorted coldly while leaning back in his seat, arms behind his head, “They’ve got Mr. Phelan backing them now and are arrogant enough to compete with us.”

Remaining silent, Horacio hit the brakes.
The car stopped outside Utopia Estates.

A slim figure got out of the taxi ahead and walked into the neighborhood.
Ryan was puzzled. “Utopia Estates? What’s going on? Are you sober or what? We’re supposed to go back to the office.”
Horacio only started the car again and left after the taxi drove off.

After arriving home, Phalicia kicked away her high heels, flexed her sore ankles, and took out a bottle of water to drink.
Her phone kept buzzing.
After turning down Caleb’s call for the eighteenth time, she went upstairs to take a shower.
As she expected, he was sitting in the living room as she walked downstairs.
Standing on the stairs, she looked down at him. “What are you doing here? Go back to your place.”
He stood up immediately, looking so nervous and guilty that he didn’t even know where to put his hands.
“I’m sorry, Licia. I got you wrong. But I swear I don’t have any feelings for Shevonne. I just… I didn’t want them to think you were about to hit her. I’m telling the truth!”
Phalicia’s eyes flickered as she walked downstairs.
Seeing that she was finally willing to talk to him, he was relieved.

After she left the bar, he chased after her while leaving Shevonne behind. Unable to reach her on the phone, he couldn’t stand being in the bar anymore, let alone dealing with Shevonne.
He searched everywhere before finally coming here. The sound of running water from upstairs brought him some relief.
He told himself he was just worried that Phalicia might sense something off, which would pose a threat to their relationship.
The winter collection launch was around the corner, and he couldn’t afford any relationship drama with her.
He nodded to himself and told himself that was all he was worried about.
Focusing intently, he gently took Phalicia’s hand, wanting to kiss its back.
But she withdrew it.
Sighing slightly, he said, “Licia, forgive me, alright? I promise this won’t happen again.”
Turning away, she still remained silent.
A surge of impatience washed over him.
He had always been pampered, and being so humble to a woman just wasn’t his thing.
“What should I do for you to forgive me? Licia, you weren’t like this before. You used to forgive me right away. What’s gotten into you today?”
Phalicia’s shoulders trembled slightly in silence.
