Chapter 19
“Ms. Lombard, there’s nothing going on between Cal and me. I’m only here today because I need his help. Could you please talk to him?”
She grabbed Phalicia’s wrist.
Clutching the swaying glass, Phalicia said with a half–smile, “If Caleb doesn’t wanna help you, I’m afraid there’s nothing I can do.”
A flicker of unnameable emotion flashed across Caleb’s gaze as he said, “Licia, it’s all up to you.”
Shevonne smiled bitterly, “See? He loves you so much. If you agree, he’ll help me for sure.”
It was essentially a waltz with intangible tension between Shevonne and
Caleb.
Caleb wanted to help Shevonne but was too proud to do so, so he wanted Phalicia to play the considerate part and mediate.
As for Shevonne, she was probing whether Caleb still loved her by deliberately putting Phalicia in the crossfire.
Without saying anything, Phalicia swirled the glass thoughtfully.
Meanwhile, Caleb took a sip of the wine calmly while glancing at Clinton, not far away from them.
Clinton caught his drift at once. “Phalicia, come on. Just help Shevonne out, alright? She’s so pitiful. Besides, what happened between her and Caleb is all in the past now.”

Everyone else immediately echoed.
They were all indirectly forcing Phalicia to be generous.
She looked up and chuckled, as if she had no idea what they were thinking at all. “Sorry, Ms. Sandoval. I don’t want Caleb to help you because that will make me jealous.”
Both Shevonne and Caleb were dumbfounded at once.
“I didn’t know my existence bothered you this much, Ms. Lombard. I’m sorry. I’d hate to come between you and Cal.” Shevonne’s eyes instantly turned red as she stumbled to her feet and fled.
Caleb was anxious and stood up instinctively, wanting to chase after her.
Just then, Phalicia’s unhurried voice rang out behind him.
“I’m not finished yet, Ms. Sandoval.”
Shevonne stopped in her tracks, turning back with tear–filled eyes. She choked out, “Ms. Lombard, you’ve made yourself perfectly clear. Don’t worry. I’ll never trouble Cal again, not even if I end up on the streets. What else do you wanna say?”
Without saying anything, Phalicia stood up and walked over to her.
Seeing how aggressive she was, Caleb was a bit uneasy and couldn’t help but follow her closely.
Standing in front of Shevonne, Phalicia raised her hand.
Shevonne instinctively tilted her head and closed her eyes.
“Don’t hit her!” Caleb blurted out, his deep voice a mixture of worry and warning. Then he clutched Phalicia’s wrist tightly.

card in Phalicia’s
In the next second, he was stunned as he saw the bank card
hand.
Phalicia feigned surprise. “I just wanted to give Ms. Sandoval some money so that she could stay at a hotel. In this way, she wouldn’t have to rent a place or trouble you. What do you think, Caleb?”
Hearing this, he let go of her wrist hastily.
“I’m sorry, Licia. I–I thought…”
“Enough. I don’t wanna hear a word from you.” She shoved the card into Shevonne’s hand and walked back to the couch to fetch her bag while rubbing her reddened wrist.
Caleb blocked the door and stared at her nervously. “Licia, don’t be mad.”
She glanced at him deeply.
“The cocktail you made was so good.”
After saying this, she pushed him away and left without looking back.
Seeing this, Shevonne curved her lips slightly into a triumphant smile.
Savoring the scene where Caleb had warned Phalicia and protected her, she said, “Cal, you still care about me, don’t you?”
For some reason, Caleb was a bit irritated.
