Chapter 18
It was a message from his friend, Clinton Vazquez.
“Shevonne is with us. She’s here for you. Come here as soon as possible.”
Caleb started the car. “Alright. Let’s go then. Don’t worry–no one gets to make you drink. Not on my watch.”
She nodded with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.
Soon, they arrived at the private room.
Upon entering, Phalicia looked around.
A few of Caleb’s friends were drinking and playing dice, and Shevonne sat in a corner, looking at them quietly.
At the sight of them, Clinton turned off the music and stood up, saying with a smile, “Hey, you’re here. Come sit. The party has just begun.”
When Caleb saw Shevonne, he stopped in his tracks, his expression darkening.
“Who invited her here?”
The whole scene fell silent at once.
Shevonne froze, looking utterly embarrassed.
Meanwhile, Phalicia pursed her lips.
Caleb was so good at acting–Shevonne was precisely the reason why he had taken her here.

She smiled while tugging at Caleb’s sleeve, “Caleb, come on. That’s a bit uncalled for, don’t you think? It’s all in the past now, and we’re all friends
here.”
Her gentle voice eased the tension in the air.
Shevonne glanced at her, gritted her teeth, and walked over to Caleb.
“Cal, can you do me a favor? I’ve just come back and haven’t found a place to live. Could you rent me your unused place? I’m really sorry to ask you. I wouldn’t bother you and Ms. Lombard if I had any other choice.”
Her eyes were brimming with tears, and she blinked to stop them from streaming down. However, her body trembled slightly, making her look pitiful.
Caleb’s tone was still as icy as ever, yet his lashes fluttered slightly. “Why would I help you? Ms. Sandoval, could you come up with any reason at all?”
Shevonne took a deep breath and said in a sobbing voice, “Cal, we were once in love. Do you really have to be so cruel to me?”
Hearing this, the rest all looked at Phalicia.
Some were studying her expression, and some were waiting for a drama to unfold.
Those present were all Caleb’s close friends, whose families had business dealings with Voyage Group.
Though they all acted friendly toward Phalicia, they were loyal to Caleb only.
When she saw Clinton’s message, she knew they all understood how important Shevonne was to Caleb.

They all treated her like a fool, knowing Caleb had been using her to get back at Shevonne this entire time.
Caleb’s clenched fists gave him away. He scoffed with disdain, “Ms. Sandoval, you loved me before? How flattering.”
Tears streamed down Shevonne’s cheeks.
But he pretended he hadn’t seen them and looked away. “I don’t do favors for my ex–girlfriend. Besides, I don’t wanna upset Licia. You should go to someone else.”
With that, he took Phalicia to sit down.
Biting her lip, Shevonne trembled slightly. It seemed she’d collapse at any
second.
But he still chose to ignore her. After sitting down, he mixed Phalicia’s favorite drink.
Phalicia’s gaze darkened as she watched him mistakenly reach for strawberry juice instead of the cherry one.
He soon handed her the drink with a doting smile. “It’s cherry cocktail, your favorite. Since your period is coming, skip the ice. Alright?”
The way he looked at her was as affectionate as always, yet she couldn’t help but feel that he was looking at someone else through her.
She took the cocktail and was about to drink it when Shevonne suddenly
strode toward her.
