Chapter 14
Horacio was the star of Triumph Law Firm. Of course, he had at least read about the Lombard family case.
She had him investigate Shelton’s case because she wanted to know–could he represent her family and even take on Voyage’s legal team?
She was pondering when Horacio said, “I’m picky about cases.
“Personally, I prefer clients with clean backgrounds and straightforward requests.”
She nodded, not planning on negotiating. Cutting to the chase, she said, “Name your price. How much will it take for you to say yes?”
“Any amount?” he asked.
A trace of hope rose in her heart. “Try me.”
He stared at her for a moment before saying, “I want ten times the usual
fee.”
She couldn’t help but clench her fingers slightly.
It was indeed a huge amount.
Over the past three years, she had built the Jewelry Department of Voyage Group from the ground up, earning major returns.
Caleb was good at keeping talents. To reinforce his affectionate persona, he had always been generous with her when it came to money.
But he took control of her largest cash flow under the pretense of

managing her assets for her.
She could get the money back, but only with a good reason.
Horacio stared at her intently. “Ms. Lombard, you can’t afford it? I
assumed your patience would’ve earned you major gains from the Phelan family.”
Her gaze turned cold as Caleb’s encounter with Shevonne at the restaurant that day emerged in her mind again.
She had thought Horacio would pretend not to remember about this.
Smiling, she responded, “My patience? Mr. Thatcher, we’ve never met each other before today. But it seems you’ve seen through me.”
He said casually, as if he hadn’t detected the displeasure in her tone, “I wouldn’t go that far, but… this isn’t our first meeting.”
Phalicia clenched her fists, pursing her lips.
In the past, she would have left decisively already when faced with such an outrageous extortion.
But not this time.
Triumph Law Firm was her biggest shot.
Any other law firm would have yielded to Voyage Group’s legal team.
Besides, Triumph Law Firm was top–tier in the legal industry.
In short, Horacio was her only option.
Her gaze fixed on Horacio’s face. “Ten times sounds too much. Like you, I need to think about it, too. How about we both take three days and then circle back?”

Horacio took a sip of the coffee, his Adam’s apple bobbing slightly. “Alright.”
She rose to her feet, circled the coffee table, and stood in front of him.
He leaned backward slightly while looking at her.
Meanwhile, a faint fragrance of her reached him.
With one standing and the other seated, she should have had the upper hand.

But his features were so predatory. As his gaze fell upon her, mixed with great interest and scrutiny, he didn’t seem to be at a disadvantage at all.
She smiled. Though her posture remained defensive, her tone was utterly gentle. “Mr. Thatcher, I hope you can keep what happened at the restaurant a secret. Otherwise, I’ll make sure you never get to set foot in Triumph Law Firm again.”
With this, she turned to fetch her bag from the desk.
Turning around, she almost collided with his chest.
He was even taller than Caleb, who stood 1.85 meters tall, and his stare when he looked down at someone was utterly intimidating.
For some reason, her heart skipped a beat.
He took out a voice recorder out of nowhere and waved it in front of her. “Ms. Lombard, it seems you know nothing about the law. Are you seriously threatening a lawyer?”
