At this, she couldn’t help but ask, “I came here during my lunch break. And you’re asking me to wait for him?”
The receptionist seemed a bit embarrassed. “I’m sorry, Ms. Lombard. Mr. Thatcher hates waiting, so it’s always his clients who wait for him.”
Phalicia said nothing, feeling a bit displeased.
She was told that Horacio was the star here–he had never lost a case.
Given this, she decided to suppress her anger and wait for him.
She entered the room without making any further complaint.
Then she sat down and happened to face the countdown timer on the
wall.
Time passed by as she sipped her coffee.
Half an hour passed, and she had finished half of her coffee.
Just then, she heard a sound from the door.
The timer dinged.
She felt a wave of speechlessness.
He was punctual indeed.
Looking at the doorknob turn, she stood up, ready to jab.
In the next second, the door was opened.

She was stunned. “You?”
He had a tall frame as well as dark, thick hair, and his deep–set eyes radiated danger.
She forced a smile. “We meet again.”
“Have I seen you before?” Horacio paused for a bit, as if he had no recollection of Phalicia at all. He walked inside, not forgetting to close the door behind him.
Then he walked over and extended his right hand.
“Hello. I’m Horacio Thatcher from Triumph Law Firm.”
Phalicia shook his hand and said calmly, “Nice to meet you. I’m Phalicia Lombard.”
Horacio’s hand was much bigger than hers, completely enveloping her fingers. He let go after a second.
“Take a seat, Ms. Lombard.”
He flipped through the document the receptionist had given him.
Clients‘ general requests would be delivered to him in written form before meetings.
“You wanna reopen the criminal case from three years ago?”
Phalicia could already tell what Horacio was like within seconds.
He always kept it short and didn’t stir up trouble.
It was a good thing for her because she didn’t have to waste time on dealing with what had happened that day.

She adjusted her mood quickly and said, “That’s right. My brother stood up for me three years ago and accidentally injured a man, leaving the man infertile. My brother was then sentenced to eight years in prison.”
After a pause, she continued, “But recently, I’ve been getting this strong feeling… There’s more to what happened back then.
Horacio listened to her quietly and then put the document on the desk.
It caused a soft thud.
The sound wasn’t particularly loud, but it made her wonder what he was thinking.
She glanced at him. “Mr. Thatcher, are you gonna take the case or not? You can name your price.”
He said, “I’ll have to think about it.”
Hearing this, she was stunned, figuring she had misheard. “I’m offering you double the usual pay.”
He stared at her, his eyes unfathomable. “It’s not just a criminal case. There’s something more to it, which may easily drag me into hot water. It is why you’re willing to pay double, right?”
She squinted slightly.
He was the top lawyer indeed, figuring out the hidden risk within
minutes.
In fact, he wasn’t wrong.
Back then, the downfall of the once–great Lombard family had involved a lot of illegal dealings, including tax evasion, bribery, illegal projects, and
so on.

During the investigation, even the courts had been shorthanded and had to summon lawyers from law firms to help.
Those top law firms had all been fighting for participation in this case because it meant fame and reputation.
