Chapter 11
Phalicia arched an eyebrow. “What? No. After all, every one of your exes was your ‘true love‘, and you were ready for marriage every time.”
Smiling, she added, poking Carlene’s sore spot accurately, “Too bad none of them wanted to marry you.”
“You…” Carlene opened her mouth in shock.
Those harsh words pissed her off, but she was even more shocked at Phalicia’s attitude. She felt like she was facing an entirely different
person.
Phalicia would never have said a single harsh word to her before, yet here she was, being all sarcastic!
Her face turned livid as she took a deep breath. “Licia, I’m here because I wanna see things between you and Caleb work out for the best. How could you say this to me? You totally let me down.”
She sprang to her feet and stormed out, holding her head up.
But she was still outside the door after two minutes.
Phalicia’s phone kept buzzing, reminding her someone was at the door.
She opened the feed and saw Carlene standing outside. After quite a while, Carlene left even more angrily.
Did Carlene think she’d rush out and apologize, like she used to?
She would never do that again.

Instead, she went upstairs to sleep.
The next day, her alarm woke her up. She sat up, rubbed her temples, and picked up her phone.
The calendar showed she had a meeting at 8:00 a.m.
There was an hour before the meeting, so she had a simple wash–up and then hurried out.
As soon as she walked into the building, she saw the receptionists smiling at her weirdly. It seemed they were anticipating something.
Frowning slightly, she had just entered the lobby when a familiar voice rang out beside her.
“Licia!”
She turned around, and a bouquet of pink roses came into her view.
Holding the bouquet in his hands, Caleb stared at her intently. “I’m so sorry about last night. Could you forgive me?”
Employees who were passing by all couldn’t help but let out a gasp.
Caleb, the noble, refined CEO, asked for her forgiveness in front of everyone. How romantic!
Caleb curved his lips imperceptibly as he heard their whispers.
Meanwhile, Phalicia studied him and noticed a lot of details she had
overlooked before.
She realized that every time he acted all affectionate, he was merely building his persona. He enjoyed fooling everyone, which gave him a sense of satisfaction.

What was happening now was a perfect example. Once again, he
reinforced his persona while clearing up last night’s rumors, and all he needed was a bouquet of roses and a few affectionate words.
And her, the necessary prop in his act.
“Licia?” Caleb noticed Phalicia’s silence and called out to her, looking a bit skeptical.
She snapped out of it and took the bouquet as usual. “I’m no longer upset. You don’t have to do this.”
“Really? You have no idea how glad I am to hear this.”
He grabbed her hand and casually walked into the CEO’s private elevator.
Once inside, she pulled back her hand and stepped away from him with the bouquet in her arms.
His eyes flickered as he whispered, “Licia, I promise I’ll never force you again. Don’t be afraid of me, alright?”
She nodded.
Seeing this, he smiled, “Carlene told me she came to you last night to speak up for me, yet you were so harsh to her that she walked out eventually. You’ve never raised your voice at her before. What happened?”
