Seeing my cold attitude, a flicker of hurt crossed Daniel’s face.
“Chloe, I came to bring you medicine. I figured you hadn’t eaten and must be hungry, so I picked up some takeout for you.”
“I asked our mutual friends and found out you were staying here, so I came.”
Saying that, Daniel looked at me guiltily, lowering his gaze.
“Chloe, I’m sorry. I didn’t know your true identity before

“I never thought you actually got married and had a child, and even less that your husband would be Julian Knight.”
Before he could finish, I coldly cut him off, “Well, now you know. You can leave.
Daniel didn’t leave. Instead, he handed me the package containing the medicine and food.
Seeing me hesitate to take it, Daniel looked a bit awkward, his voice softening.
“Chloe, this is the century egg and lean pork congee I specifically bought for you. Please, just for my sake, try some?”
I reached out and took it. A glimmer of hope appeared in Daniel’s eyes.
The next second, I directly threw both the medicine and the food into the trash can.
Daniel’s eyes immediately reddened, his voice tinged with undeniable grievance.
“Chloe, I know you’re angry with me, but I’ve already realized my mistake and tried my best to make amends. Why do you have to trample on my feelings like this?”
I retorted coldly, “Just because you apologized doesn’t mean I have to forgive you, does it? And just because you have feelings doesn’t mean I have to accept them.”
“Besides, you said you bought this specifically for me, but how come you don’t even know I have a century egg intolerance?”
Daniel looked utterly shocked.
“What? You have a century egg intolerance?”
“But you clearly ate century eggs when we went out for dinner before.”
I said coldly, “Yes, that’s why I threw up all night.”
I remember during the most intense part of our relationship, Daniel often took me to his friends‘ gatherings, proudly introducing me to his buddies, and seizing every opportunity to flaunt our affection.
He would not only pee! century eggs for me but also personally pick food for me.
Everyone called our love a match made in heaven.
Although I couldn’t eat century eggs, I didn’t want to disappoint Daniel, so I ate them anyway.
As a result, as soon as the dinner ended, I started throwing up.
That night, I visited the toilet multiple times.
If Daniel had cared about me even a little, he would have noticed my abnormality.
But he was married to me for six years and didn’t even know my preferences.
To put it bluntly, he just didn’t care.
With my retort, Daniel looked quite embarrassed.
“So, what do you like? I’ll go buy something else for you.”
I said indifferently, “No need. My husband and son already went to get me something.”
“They know everything I like. You don’t need to trouble yourself”
Daniel was speechless and tried to say something else, but I cut him off first.

“Daniel, if you’re here to beg for your company, then give up. I won’t help you.”
“I already made my identity clear before, but you refused to believe me. Now, you can reap what you sow.”
His intention exposed, Daniel’s face darkened further, and his eyes grew redder.
“Chloe, do you have to be so cold to me?”
“The old you was so gentle. You knew I had headaches, so you specially learned massage for half a year. When I was sick, you stayed by my side constantly. Even when I was diagnosed with kidney failure, you didn’t hesitate to give me a kidney…”
“You said it yourself, that was in the past. Now I’m married and have my own family. Naturally, I should keep my distance from you, my ex–husband.”
“After all, I’m not like you, still entangled with others even though you have a family”
“As for the kidney I donated to you, just consider it wasted on someone undeserving.”
My retort left Daniel speechless.
He couldn’t argue, because everything I said was true.
Ever since Ashley returned, he had been entangled with her, doing everything a couple would under the guise of being childhood sweethearts.
When I questioned him a few times, he would accuse me of being suspicious, saying that after so many years of marriage, I didn’t even trust him.
That would make me feel guilty and drain me emotionally…
Seeing that the emotional card wasn’t working, Daniel changed the subject, bringing up the company.
“Chloe, even if we’re divorced, the company still has a big part of your hard work in it. Can you really bear to just let it die?”
