Everyone was utterly shocked.
“The news about Mr. Knight buying that bracelet in a grand public display of affection was everywhere! That bracelet looks exactly like the one Chloe is wearing!”
“So… Chloe is actually Mr. Knight’s wife?”
Ashley’s eyes widened when she saw the bracelet on my wrist, a flash of jealousy and malice crossing her face.
The next second, she took me by surprise and yanked off my watch, saying in a sarcastic tone, “Chloe, you’ve got some nerve, trying to fool people with a fake watch! How dare you impersonate Mr. Knight’s wife?”
“Don’t get me wrong, this replica is pretty good, but fakes are fakes; they’ll never be real.”
“Daniel is about to partner with Mr. Knight, and you’re impersonating Mr. Knight’s wife at a time like this. Are you trying to ruin Daniel’s
career?”
I glared at her coldly.
“Who told you this watch is fake? This watch is genuine! Give it back!”
Ashley refused to return it and intentionally tucked the watch into her clothes.
I stepped forward to snatch it back, but she took the opportunity to fall to the ground, looking up at me with tear–filled eyes.
Chloe, I didn’t realize you hated me so much. Not only did you intentionally push me, but to get back at me, you’re dragging Daniel into this too. If that’s the case, I’ll take Ethan and leave now, so I don’t bother you anymore…”
Ashley cried and whined, making a show of wanting to leave.
Two years, and she was still playing the same old tricks.
And Daniel, as always, fell for it every time.
<
This time, he continued to protect her, shouting at me.
“That’s enough, Chloe! Ashley is a patient; are you trying to kill her?”
“It was your fault to begin with! You impersonated Mr. Knight’s wife; are you trying to ruin our company’s partnership? Two years apart, and you’ve become so malicious!”
Meeting Ashley’s defiant gaze, I scoffed inwardly.
She wasn’t sick at all. Her terminal illness was fake, and her medical records were forged.
I had told Daniel before, but he didn’t believe me, instead accusing me of slandering her.
Even now, he still didn’t believe me.
I couldn’t be bothered to argue, assuming Daniel would continue to make things difficult for me as he always had.
But he sighed helplessly. “Alright, since Ashley likes this watch, just give it to her as an apology.”
“Let’s just drop this. I’ll pretend I didn’t hear anything that was said earlier.”
That watch was a special gift from Julian. He expected me to just hand it over? No way.
I snatched the watch back, saying coldly, “This is a gift from my husband. You have no right to touch it!”
The sharp edge of the diamond watch scratched Daniel’s finger, drawing blood.
Seeing that I wouldn’t back down, he pursed his lips tightly.
“Chloe, it’s just a cheap bracelet. If it weren’t for giving you an out, do you really think we’d care?”
“Ashley, it’s just a watch, right? I’ll buy you an even more expensive and better one, one that will make a certain someone regret it!”
I ignored them, turning and leaving the private room.
Afterward, I returned to my hotel to rest.
In the evening, I quickly got ready and headed to the business gala.
Before I left, Julian sent me a message, telling me that the water park show had just ended, and he was bringing Leo over. He told me to go in first and wait for them.
Knowing that my husband and son loved cake, I took a small plate of cupcakes, intending to find a seat and wait for them.
The moment I turned, I bumped into Daniel and Ashley, both dressed to the nines.
Seeing me, Daniel’s eyes flashed with disdain.
“What are you doing here? What, did you come here specifically to get back together with me?”
“You were so tough earlier, but it seems you’re nothing special now!”
Seeing the cake in my hand, Ashley sneered, “Chloe, could you be a server here? I heard the servers here only make four thousand. That’s not as quick as taking care of our Ethan!”
Daniel also had a smug look on his face.
“Chloe, if you beg me, I might consider letting you take care of Ethan, for old times‘ sake.”
I calmly said, “Don’t misunderstand. I’m not a server. I’m here waiting for my husband and child.”
Ashley, however, looked as if she’d heard the biggest joke in the world.
“Chloe, Mr. Knight is the only one bringing a child to this gala tonight. You’re not still trying to say you’re Mr. Knight’s wife, are you?”
“I am.”
Hearing me say that, Ashley crossed her arms and scoffed.
“Chloe, you’re addicted to lying! How dare you talk nonsense and try to claim connections at such an important event? And you’re still wearing
that fake watch!”
“If Mr. Knight and his wife found out about this, we’d all be in deep trouble!”
Before I could react, Ashley rushed forward, snatched the bracelet from my wrist, and smashed it fiercely onto the ground.
The sharp diamonds cut a gash into my wrist, and crimson blood began to flow.
Before I could even cry out in pain, Ashley violently shoved me to the ground, then grabbed a nearby cake plate and threw it at my face, snarling, “I’ll teach you a lesson for Mr. Knight, you imposter!”
Cake splattered all over my face, the sticky cream clogging my nostrils, nearly suffocating me.
I reached up to wipe the cream off my face, but Ashley stomped down hard on my hand with her rigid high heel, grinding it repeatedly.
Excruciating pain shot through my entire body. I could almost hear my bones cracking.
When the crowd in the ballroom realized I was an imposter, they all started laughing at me.
Daniel watched the entire time with a cold, indifferent gaze.
Just then, someone in the crowd shouted, “Mr. Knight is here!”
Everyone immediately turned to look at the entrance. I waved my arms, trying to get Julian’s attention.
But Daniel grabbed my hand and whispered, “Chloe, settle down! I know you deliberately followed me here because you’re jealous.”
