Chapter 8
“I won’t. Dad, Mom, I’m really serious. Over my dead body will I marry Timothy.
“Oh, and I’m not going back to Scuania for school. I’ll stay in Freyburn and be with you.”
The expressions of Kathy and Gordon turned solemn at once. “No way. You’ll be graduating in a year. How could you quit now?”
Charlotte looked equally serious. “Mom, I wanna stay here and learn to do business with you. To me, a degree means nothing. Real experience is
what matters.”
In her past life, she had attended the best university in Scuania.
Jocelynn accompanied her as a so–called “study companion“. But in fact, Jocelynn used her as a stepping stone.
She paid for all of Jocelynn’s living expenses and tuition there.
During finals, someone anonymously reported her for plagiarism. Her grades were invalidated, and she ended up being expelled.
Only later did she discover Jocelynn was the informant. Unlike her, Jocelynn graduated smoothly. After coming back to the country, she thrived in finance–all thanks to that shiny “top international graduate” title.
This time, she wouldn’t be anyone’s stepping stone.
That despicable pair–she’d get back at them properly.

Kathy said, “Lottie, we won’t stop you from calling off the engagement. But you must go back to Scuania and finish your studies.”
Charlotte said, “How about this? I’ll attend any local university to get a degree.”
Still looking serious, Kathy said decisively, “That’s not acceptable.”

On the contrary, Gordon didn’t think it was a big deal. He grinned and persuaded Kathy, “If Lottie wants to come back, why not? We get to see her every day. Honestly, I’ve been worried about her staying abroad. I know you feel the same way.”
Furious, Kathy frowned at him. “Gordon, why are you taking her side?”
He smiled, “Kathy, we have only one girl. As long as she’s happy, nothing else matters, don’t you think? Besides, even if she drops out, we still have enough money to set her up for life.”
Kathy sighed helplessly, “Good job spoiling her. I surrender. Do as you want.”
Charlotte was deeply touched, her eyes reddening. “Dad, Mom, I love you. I’ll work hard and make you proud.“\
Gordon beamed, “You’ve really grown up, Lottie. I’m so glad to hear you say this. Now, let’s eat.”

The next day.
Early in the morning, Gordon had the housekeeper return the Bradford family’s engagement gifts.
Meanwhile, he demanded they return his family’s gifts in exchange.

Chapter 8
At the Bradford’s manor.
Evelin Joseph, Timothy’s mother, was completely dumbfounded upon learning the news.
“What? Why are they calling off the engagement all of a sudden? What happened?
“Timo, didn’t you have Charlotte under your thumb?”
Timothy was equally stunned, not knowing what to say.
He had been in a huff, waiting for Charlotte to apologize to him.
He had even had all planned out–this time, he wouldn’t let her off easily. She had to learn her lesson properly.
But at the sight of those gifts, he realized she was serious about calling off the engagement.
Evelin was utterly nervous. She kept whining, “Timo, did you have a fight with Charlotte? I told you so many times–play nice for now. You can do whatever you want after marrying her and knocking her up.”
Timothy comforted her perfunctorily, “Calm down, Mom. She’s just throwing a tantrum.
“You know how much she loves me. Of course, she can’t bear to leave me. Three days, max–and she’ll come back to me to patch things up with me.‘
But Evelin wasn’t convinced at all. She said, looking anxious, “Timo, go and coax her now. I don’t care what you do. The wedding is on!”
The Bradford family had assets worth at least 10 billion dollars.
But since Timothy wasn’t related to the Bradford family by blood, he had

no inheritance rights. During future asset distributions, he might get some cash, but there was no way he could make it to the Bradford Group’s inner circle.
Charlotte was way out of his league. Getting engaged to her was like hitting the jackpot for him.
Timothy seemed so different.
Seeing this, Evelin grew even more anxious.
“No way. I can’t sit around anymore. I’m going to the Lindsey’s manor,” she said while standing up.
