Chapter8
Mariana stood in front of Edwin again and refused bluntly, “Sorry, I can’t accept your proposal.”
Edwin didn’t even look up, completely indifferent to her answer. He said, “Just now, a guy was sent in here. You’re in trouble.”
“Mr. Montoya, thanks for your concern. I’ve already taken care of it,” Mariana refused again.
Edwin squinted his eyes, thinking, “With her sharp mind, she must have already guessed I slept with her that night. Why doesn’t she want to marry me?”
Edwin’s voice turned sinister. “But I can send another one here any time.”
Mariana’s eyes darkened. “Are you threatening me?”
“I’m not trying to threaten you,” Edwin said calmly. “If you agree, the Montoya Group can give you all the support you need. Don’t you want to revive the Mueller family? I can also cure your leg.”
Mariana was annoyed by his patronizing tone, but every word he said hit her soft spot.
She looked at her left leg, which was still weak. If she didn’t cure it soon, how could she grab her chance to turn things around? How could she fight against that ruthless, cheating couple?
Besides, the Mueller Group’s board was controlled by Waylon. If she wanted to shake things up, she needed a solid plan. Would reality give her enough time?

She took a deep breath and asked, “How are you going to treat my leg? How long will it take?”
“Go to this address. There’ll be a doctor to give you a massage. In three days, you’ll be able to walk freely,” Edwin said, tossing a business card on the table.
Three days?
Mariana blinked in surprise.
Her leg injury had been dragging on for two years. The doctors she knew couldn’t even guarantee a recovery time, yet he said it could be cured in three days.
It was ridiculous!
But Edwin looked so confident that she couldn’t help but hold onto a glimmer of hope. “If there’s really a miracle doctor, why don’t you cure yourself first?”
“Believe it or not, that’s up to you!” Edwin snapped.
No one had ever dared to talk to him like that. He never expected such a bold person to show up now.
Anger welled up in Edwin’s eyes. He turned his wheelchair, motioning for the person behind him to push him away.
“I won’t marry a cripple! In three days, if your leg is healed, someone will pick you up to get married!” His voice was domineering and deep. Even his back was intimidating.
After Edwin left Mariana’s room, his phone rang. He answered and heard an impatient, dissatisfied voice. “Mr. Montoya, are you really going to marry Mariana?”

Edwin squinted his eyes, his tone cold. “You’re really well–informed.”
The person on the other side still said urgently, “Don’t forget what your revenge plan was before your return!”
“It’s not urgent.” Edwin’s Adam’s apple bobbed, and his voice was hoarse. “This time, I’m going to play a more interesting game.”

After Edwin left, Mariana sat on the bed, clutching that business card. She recalled the confident look in Edwin’s eyes and wondered if she should trust him.
Before long, Karlee’s voice came from her earpiece. “Just now, Ralph went upstairs and entered Sandra’s room right after her.”
Karlee gave some instructions, and then Mariana heard the same moaning from the bug in Ralph’s suit as she did in the trunk that day.
Mariana frowned and said, “That’s enough.”
Karlee immediately cut off the audio from the bug in Ralph’s suit.
“I swapped the incense diffuser into Sandra’s room. With the extra stuff, our plan tonight is a sure thing! Your nose is perfect for the perfume business,” Karlee praised on the other end.
Back then, after Brenton expanded the medical business, to avoid risks, he led the R&D team to develop perfume to broaden the Mueller Group’s development path. Mariana was naturally sensitive to scents and wanted to help in the perfume R&D department, but Brenton never allowed it, so no one in the company knew about her talent.
Maybe Brenton just wanted her to be a carefree girl, but what happened next?

She blindly helped Ralph build his career, and she almost got cheated out of everything.
There was a bit of soreness in her eyes. She quickly reminded herself to calm down and said, “Tonight, they’ll definitely sleep like logs. Withdraw your people. Just wait for the news tomorrow morning.”

Early the next morning, Mariana hadn’t gotten up yet when she heard a rapid knocking on the door.
She thought, “The knocking is so urgent. Are they afraid that if they are too late things will change?” Mariana got up and tidied her long hair. She was going to see who was on the front line.
The door opened.
In the front were her third uncle, Waylon, and his wife, Hailee Ponce. They were Sandra’s parents. Behind them were Emmitt, Lillian, and some senior directors from the Mueller Group. What a commotion!
Mariana thought, “Sandra and Ralph didn’t just want Emmitt and Lillian to see me as unfaithful and break off my engagement. They also wanted to use this chance to weaken my position on the Mueller Group’s board.”
