Chapter 16
“What?” Olivia looked completely baffled, not understanding how she won the prize without doing anything.
The other girls were shocked too, and after the surprise came waves of jealousy and anger.
Someone said, “Why her? What did Olivia do to deserve this?”
Another person added, “So many people walked in. Why was it Olivia who won?”
Someone else complained. “People get fired for entering the office with their left foot, and she wins a prize for stepping into a store with her left foot? That’s insane.”
Another girl yelled, “Damn it, why didn’t I step in with my left foot? I walked in right before her. If I had led with my left, the prize would’ve been
mine.”
The most furious of them all was Chloe. She had just generously handed out gifts to everyone except Olivia, deliberately leaving her out just to humiliate her and make her feel embarrassed.
But now Olivia had hit the jackpot and could choose anything in the store with no limits, making Chloe’s earlier move look like a petty, pathetic joke.
Chloe’s face burned like she’d been slapped across the face in public.
She walked up to the store manager, bit her lip, and voiced her complaint. “Only those who actually buy something count as customers.
She hasn’t spent a single cent. She doesn’t count as a customer. How can she win a prize? Doing this will disappoint your real customers.” The others nodded in agreement.
The store manager remained calm and firm. “Every store has its own rules. Our store’s rule is that once someone walks in, regardless of whether they’ve made a purchase, they’re considered a potential customer. And potential customers are still customers.”
Chloe protested, “I also entered with my left foot, and I came in before her. According to your store’s prize rules, the prize should’ve gone to me. If you don’t believe me, check the security footage.”
Even Chloe herself wasn’t sure which foot she used first. But since Olivia had walked in last, there were plenty of people ahead of her. Chloe refused to believe none of them had led with their left foot.
Chloe thought, ‘I don’t care who wins that prize, as long as it’s not Olivia. I won’t let her steal my thunder in front of everyone!’
The store manager kept her smile. “Oh, I forgot to mention the full criteria.
“The prize is meant for a customer who is five feet six inches tall, has hair about twenty inches long, is wearing a white top and black pants, and entered the store with their left foot first.”
Everyone went speechless, It felt no different than just handing the money to Olivia on a silver platter. It was as if the requirements had been tailor- made for her.
“This isn’t fair. These conditions were obviously designed just for her. It’s completely unfair to everyone else,” Chloe said angrily.
The manager replied with a smile, “These rules were set by our boss. It’s all just a coincidence. Maybe this young lady is just very lucky and happened to match all the criteria our boss listed.”
Chloe stomped her foot in fury. “This store is outrageous. I’m not buying anything from here. Let’s go to another store, babe. I’m not gonna purchase anything in a shady store like this.”
She deliberately spoke in Auralian so the manager would hear, hoping she would beg her to stay.
But the manager didn’t care at all. She simply made a gesture toward the exit and remarked, “That’s wonderful. Since you’re not buying anything here, this young lady will have even more styles to choose from. She can take her time and enjoy herself.”
Chloe was so furious that her face went pale. With red–rimmed eyes, she walked out of the store. The others quickly followed her. Dylan left as well.
At the entrance, Chloe hooked her arm around Dylan’s and stopped, sniffling as she spoke, “Sweetheart, didn’t you say you’re paying Olivia a hundred thousand dollars a day to hang out with us?
