Chapter 21N
Delaney thought she was so close to becoming Mrs. Shaw. But what she didn’t count on was him showing up again. The man used old, compromising photos to blackmail her. He demanded money to return home and Delaney had no choice but to comply.
One thing led to another… and once they met again, they ended up right back in bed.
As for the baby in her belly? Even Delaney wasn’t sure who the father was.
Beckett let out a cold, bitter laugh.
Delaney flew into a hysterical rage. “No! He’s lying, Beckett, please! Don’t listen to him! He’s a thief, a con man!” }
“Kick him out! Kill him if you have to!” still screaming. N
Before Beckett gave his answer, Delaney lunged and grabbed the man by the throat, choking him with all her strength. The man, struggling to breathe, shoved her off.N
Delaney hit the ground hard–and suddenly, a pool of blood spread beneath her.
Beckett looked down at her, writhing in pain on the floor and for a second, it was like he’d been stabbed through the heart.
But it wasn’t because he felt sorry for her.
No. It reminded him of something else–something he’d tried so hard to forget.
He remembered me, lying on the ground, bleeding, weakly calling his name… and he ignored me. He left me there and ran off with Delaney instead.

because of that, I nearly died. Me and our baby.
It’s a memory that haunts him to this day.
Even through her pain, Delaney was watching Beckett’s face closely. When she saw the way his brows furrowed, like he was reliving something painful, she thought she had a chance. She dragged herself through the blood and reached out to him.
“Beckett, please save our baby. I didn’t mean to keep it from you. He kept threatening me with those photos, but I swear–I only love you, Beckett!”
“It hurts. Please, Beckett, save our child…“N
Her cries, her pain, her begging–none of it moved Beckett.N
He looked at her with pure disgust. His eyes were dark, like a storm about to break.
mine. And even if it is–let it die.” Beckett spoke, each word venomous.
“I know everything you did to Evelyn and I won’t let it slide. You’re lucky it happened this way. If I had done it myself, it would’ve been
worse.”
His voice dripped with loathing.§
For a moment, Delaney froze. She was so scared, she couldn’t even cry anymore. By the time she came to her senses and tried to play her usual games, it was too late.
The pain in her belly became unbearable. She started screaming, just like I did that day in the hospital.
But Beckett just stood there coldly, watching. Watching as the baby he once believed was his, slipped away into a pool of blood.
Delaney wasn’t taken to the hospital after the miscarriage. Beckett had someone force a few gulps of cold water down her throat, then grabbed her by the hair and yanked her up.
“Now tell me, who saved me from that fire?” His voice was ice. His eyes looked at her like she was a cold cadaver.
Back when Beckett was rescued from the fire, the first person he saw when he opened his eyes was Delaney. And because of that, he thought she had saved his life. When he asked her, she didn’t even hesitate–she claimed the credit.
Just thinking about it made Beckett’s blood boil. He slapped Delaney hard across the face.N
If she hadn’t pretended to be his savior, he would’ve never let her get close.

Beckett slapped her again, even harder.
Delaney glared at him with pure hatred. She knew she was done for–but she didn’t want Beckett to win.§
She laughed, wildly and crazily, keeping her mouth shut from blurting out his real saviour’s name. &
