Chapter 8
Marcus’s appearance actually brought Dylan and me closer together.[]
I was walking home from work, heading to the restaurant Dylan had chosen for us.
Looking at the gentle river, all those bad things seemed insignificant now.[]
“Vera! You bitch!“[]
Sienna appeared out of nowhere.
She approached me with a dark expression.[]

The blow made me turn my head.[]
“You’re insane!“]
Sienna laughed maniacally.
“I am insane! Why won’t he marry me even after you left? I was in his life first!“]
I stepped back two paces, worried she might do something crazy.[]
“Whatever’s between you two has nothing to do with me anymore. I’ve stepped aside. I just want to live my own life.”
I kept trying to distance myself with my words.[]
But Sienna seemed unable to hear me.
She grabbed me by the throat.]

I struggled desperately, instinctively pushing her away with all my strength.
“Vera! Don’t you know he should love me most? You were just my replacement! Why, why! What did you do to him?”
Sienna’s eyes were bloodshot.[]
Suddenly, I found her rather pitiful.]
She was screaming hysterically, completely abandoning her image, all for a man who didn’t love her enough.
“Sienna! Wake up! Is he worth this? You have everything–why let him drive you to this madness?“[]
Sienna suddenly laughed, but it looked more painful than crying.]
“You don’t understand, Vera. I love him so much it’s become a habit. When I got sick and went abroad, I thought about him every moment. But when I came back, he had someone new. You don’t know, but I do–I know how much he loved you.”
Sienna’s tears fell one after another.

She continued: “Vera, I can’t forget, and I can’t let go. Since he loves you so much, then you should just die!“[]
Suddenly, she lunged forward again, trying to push me into the river.[]
I struggled instinctively.[]
Sienna slipped and started falling toward the water.[]
I desperately grabbed her hand.[]
“Don’t let go!”
Sienna suddenly grew calm, looking at me with uncertain eyes.[]
“Vera! Are you crazy? What are you trying to do to Sienna?“]
Marcus came running over, immediately accusing me.

That was just like him–claiming to love me, but never acting like it.
Seeing Marcus, Sienna’s briefly calm emotions became agitated again.
“Let’s die together, Vera.“]]
Sienna grabbed my arm and pulled me down with her.
When we hit the water, my mind went blank.]

In that moment closest to death, my mind was filled entirely with Dylan, my mother, and Uncle Carter–all the happy times from that period.
As my consciousness faded, I seemed to see someone gripping my hand tightly.
When I opened my eyes again, the first thing I saw was Dylan, soaking wet from head to toe.
“You saved me again.“]

Seeing that I was awake, Dylan’s face immediately lit up with
“Why did you say ‘again‘?
I smiled without answering.
Beside me, Marcus stood there, also drenched.[]
An ambulance was nearby.
Due to her heightened emotional state, Sienna had lost consciousness more severely after falling in the water and experiencing the pressure change.
