Chapter 5
Marcus sent message after message.

I didn’t reply to a single one.
Marcus, the wedding preparations are definitely done–there’s just no bride.[]
I was puzzled about who had paid off my penalty fee.[]
I had no friends here, and Dad certainly wouldn’t help me.[]
The plane from Hawaii landed.
The first thing Marcus did after getting off was call me.
He called over and over, but all he got was the mechanical voice saying the number was unavailable.
Marcus frowned, assuming I was just throwing a tantrum.]
It wasn’t until he got home that night that reality started to hit…[]
The decorations that had been in our bedroom were gone.[]
All our photos in the bedroom had been torn to pieces in
trash.

Marcus opened the closet–some clothes were missing.
Marcus started to panic.
He pulled out his phone and kept texting me.]
“Vera, where are you? Where did you go?”
“Vera, stop being dramatic, okay? I just got back and I’m exhausted.“]
“If you’re going to keep acting like this, don’t blame me for canceling our wedding.“]
Even now, Marcus thought this would threaten me.
He’d always been so confident in his control over me.]
He was sure that just like before, it wouldn’t be long before I came crawling back to hini.[]
In his mind, as long as he turned around, I’d always be standing there waiting.
I looked at his messages and put my phone on Do Not Disturb.[]
Suddenly, someone knocked on my hospital room door.]
A man in a black suit walked in.[]
“Hello, Miss Vera. Our boss would like to meet with you.“]
Chapter 5
I was confused but followed him anyway.[]
Still in my hospital gown, I was taken to a hotel near the hospital.[]
When I walked through the door, I saw a familiar figure standing there.
I couldn’t believe it.]
“Mom… Mom?“]
The woman turned around.[]
She looked almost the same as the mother in my memories.[]
Time had left some traces on her face, but I could tell she was doing well now.
When she and Dad got divorced, I was sixteen.[]
She told me that once she got settled, she’d come back for me.]]
I’d been waiting for over ten years.
Seeing my thin body and pale lips, tears welled up in my mother’s eyes as she pulled me into a hug.
“Vera, how did you… how did you end up like this? These years must have been so hard. Don’t worry, honey. Mommy’s taking you away. I’m taking you overseas.“]
I stood there stunned, my hands stiff at my sides.
I was shocked by this love I hadn’t felt in so long.[]
“Mom, could you… do me a favor before that?“]
My mother smoothed down my messy hair.
“Vera, as long as you’re okay, I’ll do anything for
you.”

Soon, it was the wedding day.
Marcus waited in what should have been my bridal suite.
He was confident I would show up.
“Marcus…”
Sienna stood behind him with red eyes
“Marcus, could you come with me to the riverside one last time? After this, I promise I won’t bother you anymore.”
Marcus looked at Sienna, hesitating.
He checked the time–still three hours until the wedding.
Chapter 3
“Okay, I’ll come with you.“]
Three hours felt long to Marcus, but short to Sienna.[]
Sienna used every method and excuse she could think of to delay time, to postpone the wedding, to keep Marcus completely by her side.
And Marcus, listening to the sweet memories told over and over again, hesitated, his heart raced, but he always felt that the woman he was supposed to see today wasn’t the one in front of him.]
He couldn’t go with her–yes, Vera must be waiting for him at the wedding venue in her wedding dress!
At the very last moment before the wedding began, Marcus finally pushed open the door, breathless, his eyes full of anticipation and joy…[
