Chapter 4
“Marcus, what do you think?“]
I turned to look at him.[]
“We’re all just here to have fun. Nobody means anything by it. Don’t be such a buzzkill, okay? We used to do stuff like this all the time.”
Irritation flashed across Marcus’s face.[]
Once again, I was the one being unreasonable.[]
Under everyone’s expectant gaze, I slowly stood up with my wine glass.
The next second, I poured the entire contents over Marcus’s head, drenching him from top to bottom, not leaving a single drop.]
Everyone present froze, including Marcus himself.[]
I set down the glass and was about to leave.
Marcus grabbed my wrist.
“What the hell are you doing! It was just a joke!”

I shook off his hand.]

“Vera, stop being dramatic, okay? I can let everything that happened before slide. I won’t go back on my word about the wedding. Just be reasonable, can you?”
I stared at him coldly.[]
I felt nothing–no heartbreak, no flutter, nothing.
Marcus suddenly pulled me into a hug, pressing my head against his chest.]
“Vera, I promised Sienna I’d take her to Hawaii one last time before the wedding. When I get back, we’ll have our wedding as planned. Think of it as… my final gesture to her, you know? You stay home and rest. Let’s just forget about today–you don’t need to feel guilty or apologize anymore.”
Let it pass?
Chapter 4
No need for my apology?
Now that should be the biggest joke in the world.[]
Marcus’s heartbeat echoed in my ears.[]
Had it ever beaten for me?]]

Even once..
I didn’t respond, but Marcus took my silence as agreement.[]
He ruffled my hair affectionately and ran back to the private room.
n.]]
I watched him go and smiled slightly.[]
Hawaii was originally the destination I’d picked for our honeymoon.
If that’s how it is, Marcus, I’ll make way for you both.
I went home and started packing.
I didn’t take a single piece of clothing Marcus had bought me.
They were all in Sienna’s style anyway.
I only took a small portion of my clothes.[]

Looking at the tiny packed suitcase in front of me, I couldn’t help but laugh out loud.[]
So it turned out ten years of love could fit into one small suitcase.
I took one last look at the home I’d lived in for ten years, then turned and left.[]
In the hospital.
When the cold instruments probed into my body, Marcus and Sienna had probably already boarded their flight to Hawaii, right?
My heart contracted sharply.
It hurt.
My heart hurt too.
Marcus, I’ll remember this pain forever.]
In the last moment before I closed my eyes, I tried to feel the little life inside me one final time.[]
It was like having a dream.[]
When I woke up, everything was gone.[]
I gently touched my belly, where there was no longer any sign of life.]
I opened my phone.]
Chapter 4
The first thing I saw was Sienna’s Instagram post–a photo of her and Marcus embracing in Hawaii.]
After nearly a month recovering in the hospital, I got messages from both my agent and Marcus at the same time.]
“Vera, how did you manage it? The three million dollar penalty was paid off so quickly?”
“Vera, I’m flying back soon. How are the wedding preparations going? Have you picked out your dress?“]
