Chapter 3
Faced with Marcus’s accusations, I remained completely silent.[]
In the past, I probably would’ve been begging for his forgiveness by now.[]
But now?
Not anymore.
Never again.[]
Seeing that I hadn’t answered for a long time, Marcus seemed stunned and looked at me with confusion.
I met his eyes coldly: “Are you done? I’m tired.“[]
With that, I turned and headed back to my room without explaining or worrying about who might leave.[]
That night, Marcus came into the bedroom and lay down beside me.[]
He wrapped his arms around me.
“Vera, I’ve been really stressed lately. Just be good and stop targeting Sienna, okay? Our wedding’s in a month, and I’ll give you everything I promised. Deal?“[]
Marcus buried his face in my hair, his hand gently stroking my belly.]
“Mm.“]
The wedding? I don’t want it anymore.[]
*
The baby too–I don’t want it.]
Anything that has to do with you, I don’t want
any
it./
And what you promised me… you don’t need to give me that either.[]
The next day, Marcus took Sienna and me to hang out with his friends.[]
He said I’d be more comfortable sitting in the back seat.[]
- OK.
I closed my eyes and listened to Marcus and Sienna chatting away in the front seats.
Talking about all their shared memories–memories that had nothing to do with me.[]
When we got to the private room, it was full of Marcus’s usual crowd.]
Of course, friends he shared with Sienna.]
“Oh look, official girlfriend and first love are both here!“]
Chapter 3
One of his friends teased.[]
“Don’t make joke! Vera’s already having a baby–how could I possibly compare to her? Marcus and I aren’t what you guys think at all.“[]
Sienna covered her face, not annoyed but shy.]
“Alright, knock it off.“[]
Marcus frowned slightly.[]
“Vera, sit here.”
He pulled out a chair for me, then pulled out another one for Sienna.[]
When the server brought out the drinks, Marcus stopped the guy who was about to pour wine for Sienna.]]
“Don’t pour her any wine–she gets flushed when she drinks.“]
I looked at the wine glass that was already full in front of me and smiled weakly.[
So “his beloved’s blushing” trumped everything else, even his own flesh and blood in my belly.[]
At the table, someone suggested playing a game.]]
Whoever the bottle pointed to had to do a dare.]

The first spin landed on Sienna.[]
Everyone dared her to pick someone to play the pocky game
with.
た
Sienna pretended to be embarrassed, covering her face, then shyly pointed at Marcus.
“Marcus, would you… play with me?“]
Marcus glanced at me, and when he saw my expression was blank, he just said, “Sure.“[]
While their faces got closer and closer, everyone around us cheered louder and louder.]
It was like everyone had forgotten that I was supposed to be Marcus’s wife.
After they finished the game, Marcus’s ears had turned red.]

“Marcus, it’s such a shame you two never got married. I always thought you guys would end up together–you’re perfect for each other. Plus I remember all those crazy things you used to do for Sienna.”
Marcus shot the guy a warning look, and he immediately shut up.[]
Then Marcus took my hand.[]
“Vera, they’re just messing around. Don’t take it seriously.“[]
I smiled at Marcus, my face showing complete indifference.]
“It’s fine. I don’t mind.”
Chapter 3
Seeing my reaction, Marcus nodded with satisfaction.]]
The bottle started spinning again.[]
This time it pointed at me.[]
I looked up at everyone–they all had that gleeful expression of people watching drama unfold.]
“How about you does the kangaroo boxing thing? She’d be perfect for it–her hair already looks like animal fur, plus she’s got a little joey in her pouch, so the body shape’s already there.“]
I looked at Marcus.
He didn’t stop them.]
He didn’t think there was anything wrong with his friends insulting his wife like this.[]
This wasn’t the first time, after all.[]
He was used to it.
I used to think this was the fastest way to fit into his circle.
Later I realized some circles aren’t worth forcing your way into–nobody wanted me there anyway.
