Chapter 5
The next second, his gaze fell on me.
Perhaps it was a father–daughter connection;
my dad took two steps towards me.
I was a mess.
My face was swollen from the beating, blood
covering my features, making me
unrecognizable.
My mouth was slashed by the scalpel, and
Lee had knocked out four of my teeth.
I wanted to tell my dad I was his daughter. But blood choked my throat; I could barely
breathe, let alone speak.
As my dad neared, Lee and Ethan grew
restless.
They stepped forward, blocking my dad’s
view.
Lee plastered on a fawning smile.
“Mr. Riley, what brings you here personally?”
My dad ignored him, pointing at me.
“Who is this?”
Ethan kicked me aside and smiled.
“Just a gold digger who dared to impersonate
my sister and ruin our family’s reputation. Lee
and I are teaching her a lesson!”
My dad’s brow furrowed, unsure if he believed
Ethan.
He approached me, instructing the
bodyguards to bring me to him.
Ethan gritted his teeth, stopping the
bodyguards, trying to appease my dad.
“Dad, you don’t need to get involved in such a
small matter. I’ll handle it.”

My dad’s face darkened.
He hated defiance. Anyone who defied him,
except me, would pay.
Even Ethan wasn’t exempt.
Before my illness took me abroad at five, I
was frail, confined to our villa.
After my birth kidnapping, my father kept me
under strict watch, forbidding me from
leaving the house unaccompanied.
Ethan thought I was a simpleton and took me
to a crowded street.
I was nearly kidnapped.
Seven–year–old Ethan was grounded for six
months.
My father was about to kick him out when I
intervened.
My kindness was repaid with years of abuse. I regretted it; I should have let him go.
My dad’s face was grim. He looked at Ethan
and sneered.
L
“Oh? Is there something I shouldn’t see?”
