Stella’s cousin, Detective Cassidy Miller, was a criminal investigator with the Police Department. Using her identity as a relative of a wealthy /entrepreneur, she had been working undercover, investigating cross–border human trafficking cases. We cooperated; everyone got what they
needed.
At the same time, Sterling Villa in Metropolis City was surrounded by another team of special police. Julian Sterling was arrested. For years, he and Ryder had colluded, using Sterling Group to launder money for the illegal organization, concealing their crimes and committing
countless atrocities.
Cassidy escorted me to the car, helping me drape a jacket over my shoulders.
“Thanks to the organization’s personnel list and illegal crime evidence you risked your life to provide, we were able to successfully close the net so quickly.”
I smiled softly, my hand unconsciously brushing against the burn scar on my lower leg. That day, if I hadn’t risked going into Julian’s study to find evidence, I wouldn’t have missed the optimal escape time and been burned by the flames.
But thankfully, it was all worth it. Everything had gone exactly according to plan.
The Sterling family, once a dominant force, crumbled in just six short months. The maids, fearing implication, fled overnight with valuables in tow, leaving only Mrs. Davis, who had retired long ago, to stay with me in the vast Sterling Villa.
When Chloe was brought back, her mind was clearly unstable. She kept muttering, “I’m the real heiress, I deserve a life of luxury… I’m the real heiress…” She even delusively claimed she would seize all of the Sterling family’s assets.
I took a piece of paper from a drawer and held it up to her. “Who said you’re the real heiress? This DNA test report?”
The flimsy paper quickly disintegrated into fragments in my hand. “DNA results can be faked. It wasn’t the two of us who were swapped in the first place. I never said I wasn’t a Sterling.”
After all, I needed to share the same bloodline as my brothers to endure such humiliation for so many years and complete my plan to clean out the Sterling family. In this family, one obsessive Sterling was enough.
