Kevin took a heavy breath. “Thank you, Ms. Evans! Where are you going?”
I closed my eyes. “To the hospital. I have a
small procedure to take care of.”
I had to take care of the kid in my stomach.
There was no problem with the writing or the
fingerprint. With me being the widow, I could
easily take over his corporate shares.
I got to sit in the big boss‘ office.
Kevin contacted me, saying Stacey had taken
the sperm and went through with the IVF.
My in–laws were thrilled. They stayed with
Stacey all day and night.
My mother–in–law went to the office and
warned me not to pull any tricks, or she’d be
sorry.
I thought she was crazy and kicked her out.
Ten months went by in a flash.
I went to the hospital to get my pills, and ran
into my in–laws downstairs.
I saw the screaming coming from the delivery
room, and I understood. It looked like Stacey
was in labor.
I went over, curious.
My in–laws looked like I was the enemy,
looking at me with suspicion.
“What are you doing here?”
“I’m warning you! Stacey’s about to give birth!
Don’t even try to do something!”
I laughed. “Why would I do that? I was Kevin’s
wife once. I thought I’d come and visit his
baby, out of respect.”
My mother–in–law twisted her mouth. “I can
see that you’re jealous, you couldn’t have
Kevin’s child. The doctor told us that our
grandson is tall, and will be an athlete.”
My father–in–law looked proud. “It’s our
family genes! We need to train him, and he
can be on Olympic athlete ”

I couldn’t hold it in, I had to laugh.
My father–in–law glowered at me. “What are
you laughing at? I heard from the lawyer that
Kevin has real estate with your name on it. As
soon as my grandson is born, you need to
divide it, don’t stop his education.”
My mother–in–law glared. “If you try to move
your assets, we’ll sue you.”
I smiled. “Don’t worry, as long as Stacey has
Kevin’s child, I won’t touch it.”
My mother–in–law rolled her eyes. “Of
course! My son was always in love with
Stacey, that’s why he wanted her to have his
baby! You’re just pathetic!”

My father–in–law scoffed. “Kevin only married
you because he wanted to bring you to his
company, don’t think he loves you.”
I thought that might be the case.

The nurse looked at us strangely, holding a
blanket. “Who is Stacey Moore’s family?”
My in–laws rushed to her. “We are! We’re the
baby’s grandparents. We want to see our
grandson!”

The nurse backed away. “You’re the father’s
parents?”
My in–laws got nervous. “Yeah! What’s going
on? Give us our grandson.”
The nurse gave them the baby, reminding
them. “You need to prepare yourselves. This
is Mrs. Moore’s child.”
