It was not long before Jared caught up to me.
“Charlie, everyone makes mistakes. Jenny deserves a chance to start fresh. Isn’t it sad enough that she didn’t grow up with her parents? Why must you push her into a corner?”
I was just about to leave, but his moral high ground irked me.
“Everyone deserves the chance to start fresh, huh? Even those who’ve made mistakes?”
Jared frowned. “Yes.”
“Do you know why Jenny grew up without her parents?”
Jared’s expression darkened. “Of course. It’s because her parents did something wrong. If someone had been willing to give them a chance, Jenny wouldn’t have grown up alone in an orphanage. Do you want her future kid to grow up to be as sad as she is now?”
I ruminaged through my phone and sent Jared something, then smiled.
“I’m guessing you don’t know what her parents did. Well, then maybe you should take a look.”
Jared read through what I had sent, and I watched as his expression soured. His grip on his phone tightened too, and I almost thought he would break it on the spot.
He looked at me with reddened eyes and tears threatening to fall.
“That’s not possible! It can’t be!”
At the same time, Jenny also ran out and pulled Jared into her artns.
“Jared! Did she scold you because of me? Stop it. I’m not worth it. If she hates me so much, I should just die.”
Before this, Jared would surely have hugged her back. However, he just glared at her and pushed her away.
