Chapter 7
I didn’t want to be the kind of person who broke into strangers‘ homes. But my hand was already reaching out. My right fist clenched around the compass. My left hand turned the doorknob.
The door creaked open.
And then I froze.
Inside, lit by the moonlight slipping through a cracked window, stood Larissa and Samuel- half–naked, tangled in a kiss.
They broke apart immediately, both turning to look at me.
“What the hell?!” Larissa shrieked.

I couldn’t move.
My eyes darted to Samuel, and something inside me twisted violently.
That pull returned, stronger than ever.
Mate.
It echoed in my soul.
Samuel looked just as shaken. Larissa glanced between us, suspicion flaring in her eyes.
“What the hell is going on?” Samuel
muttered, running a hand through his hair in frustration. “Why do I feel… drawn to-”
“Felicia, Larissa interrupted sharply. “Why are you here?”

My lips trembled. I held up the compass. “I… I found this. It’s yours, right?”
She stormed over and snatched it from my hand.
And just like that–everything stopped.
The pull vanished. The voice inside me silenced. Every trace of that connection to Samuel… gone.
What just happened?
Samuel’s eyes were shut now, his expression twisted in confusion. When he opened them again, the confusion was gone. All that remained was anger.
“What the hell are you doing here?” he snapped.

I stammered. “I… I…
“Get out,” he growled, pointing at the door.
I turned around without another word and walked out, shutting the door behind me.
Once outside, I leaned against the wood, gasping for breath. “What the hell just happened?”
I knew what I felt in that moment. That connection. That pull.
I wasn’t imagining it–and neither was he.
But now? It was as if none of it ever existed.
I looked around. No one was in sight.
With a frustrated growl, I shifted into my wolf form and tore through the woods, racing
wack to my room. I leapt onto the balcony, shifted back, and collapsed to the floor.
“What the hell is wrong with me?”
Where had those feelings for Samuel even come from?
I thought about the moment I walked in and saw him kissing Larissa. It didn’t cut like I expected. It wasn’t like the first time I caught them together. Back then, the jealousy had been scorching, blinding.
But now? Nothing.
I remembered the intensity of that first wave of emotion. The overwhelming certainty that he was mine. That we were fated.
And now it was gone–as if it had never been real.
Everything vanished the moment Larissa took that compass.
After that, I stayed in the villa, listening as news of Samuel and Larissa’s ‘love story‘ trickled in from every direction.
He took her to every high–end jewelry shop in Moonfang Pack, spending gold like water.
He strolled with her down the busiest streets, kissed her in broad daylight like they were already mated.
He skipped a crucial council meeting because she caught a cold and needed his company.
Everyone understood what he was doing.
He wasn’t hiding it.

He wanted the world to know he’d rather toss me aside than even consider being my mate.
But me?
I didn’t say a word. I didn’t react.
The only reason I even showed up that day was because my father, Alpha Godfrey, had organized a grand hunting competition- and in our pack, when the Alpha commands, everyone attends. No exceptions.
As I stepped out of the car, the first thing I saw was Gamma Samuel.
Of course.
He was standing behind Larissa, arms around her, guiding her hand as she clumsily

aimed at a practice target. She wasn’t a werewolf, so shifting was out of the question. That meant she needed help with the basics… and he was very eager to offer it.
The two of them were practically glowing in the morning sun. His chest to her back, their shadows overlapping. Picture perfect.
They looked like a couple straight out of a storybook.
And for one foolish second, it reminded me of something I shouldn’t have remembered- another lifetime. The Aurora Howl Pack. The sakura trees in full bloom, petals falling all around us, and Samuel pulling Felicia into a kiss.
I looked away.

Pretended I saw nothing.
“Felicia!” My father’s voice boomed across the field, waving me over. “The hunting grounds are dangerous. Wild beasts roam freely. You shouldn’t be out here without proper protection.”
He scanned the crowd. “Where are your four fiancés?”
From the sea of faces, Gamma Samuel, Jeffrey, and Delta Elbert emerged.
Only one was missing.
Kevin.
“Where’s Kevin?” my father asked, his brows already drawing together.
Jeffrey chuckled. “Alpha Godfrey, don’t you

remember? Kevin’s off vacationing in Green Moss Pack.”
“Vacationing?!” My father’s voice cracked like thunder. “At a time like this? Does he not realize Felicia’s wedding is approaching?”
Delta Elbert jumped in helpfully–or maybe just to stir the pot. “Honestly, whether he’s here or not doesn’t matter. Miss Felicia would never choose Kevin anyway.”
My father shot him a glare. “And why the hell not? Felicia clearly-”
“Father!” I cut in quickly, forcing a polite smile onto my face. “We should head into the hunting grounds before it gets too late.”
