Luna’s expression crumpled into a mixture of sorrow and frustration.
With a maternal growl, she rushed to Alex’s side.
“You misunderstand, my son,” she chided, her voice a soft rumble as she cupped his face in her hands.
“It was I who summoned Lia, lured by the whispers of the pack. She has already confessed that the tales of her fertility are false.”
For a fraction of a second, Alex’s feral facade wavered.

The wolf within me whimpered.
Escape would be no easy feat
Just as I crossed the threshold of the obsidian – carved gates, a hoarse snarl ripped through the air. “Lia!”
The sound sent a jolt of primal fear down my spine.
Ignoring the command in his voice, I broke into a run.

Reluctantly, I turned.
Alex staggered into view, his gait unsteady like a newborn pup.

I let a saccharine smile curl my lips, but internally, my wolf bared its teeth in a silent snarl.-
