Chapter 19
Samuel’s POV
The slap landed harder than I expected.
Larissa stumbled back and hit the floor, her body crumpling like a broken puppet. She looked up at me, pale and stunned.
“I didn’t… It’s not what you think…” she stammered. “Samuel, you asked the witch yourself, didn’t you? I was really cursed! And that day in the lake–I only wanted to help Felicia! I never pushed her!”
And then came the tears.
“Samuel,” she whispered, voice soft and sweet, “don’t you believe me? How could you think I’d ever do such a thing?”

I looked at her–really looked at her–and for the first time, all I saw was a lie.
How many times had I fallen for those tears? How many times had I turned my back on Felicia because of her? All it had ever taken was a single word from Larissa, and I’d believed her. No questions asked.
I scoffed bitterly, my voice sharp. “Believe you? I’ve already investigated everything. The witch? You paid her off. The lake? A maid saw everything. And the attack at the hunting grounds? That rogue wolf pack was hired by you, Larissa. You spun me around like a fool.”
My hands curled into fists, my claws itching beneath the surface. “If it weren’t for you, I never would’ve lost Felicia.”

My anger surged with every word. I could feel the shift rising beneath my skin, a pulse of wolf energy that always came with rage. My mate had been torn from me, and I’d handed her over to pain on a silver platter.
Larissa flinched under my glare, but then her sorrow twisted into something uglier- resentment.
“You always liked me, didn’t you?” she snapped, baring her teeth. “Felicia’s the princess of Moonfang Pack. I’m just the unwanted bastard of the High Priestess. If I didn’t fight dirty, how the hell was I supposed to stand beside you?”
She looked desperate now, shaking with fury. “Everything I did was because I love you!”
Another slap. Harder than the first. Her head jerked to the side, her eyes wide with

disbelief.
I stared down at her, voice like ice. “The only reason I ever looked at you was because you lied. You told me the shadow I saw at the shooting range was yours. You used the mate compass to trick me into thinking we were fated. But it was Felicia. Felicia was the
one.”
My breath hitched, but I pushed through it. “You? You were never even close. You’re nothing but a manipulative fraud. And as of today-”
I turned away, already heading to my study. “We’re done. I’m divorcing you.”
That set her off.
Moonfang Pack was small. Yesterday’s wedding scandal had already made

headlines, and now a divorce less than twenty–four hours later? The gossip alone would crush her.
And she knew it.
I heard her stumble after me, practically crawling down the hallway.
“Samuel! We just got married! If you divorce me now, I’ll be ruined. My stepmother will tear me apart–I’ll have nowhere to go!” She was sobbing now, grabbing at my arm, clinging. “Please, don’t do this. I won’t lie again I swear. Go find Felicia, marry her, I won’t stop you. Just… please… let me stay. Samuel, please don’t throw me away!”
But my heart was already gone. My mind was with Felicia. I had to find her. I had to make it right. I didn’t care if I had to search every pack from here to the edge of the

continent–I would find her.
I lifted the phone. The lawyer would have the papers ready within the hour.
“Samuel!” Larissa shrieked. “If you do this, I’ll die! I swear–I’ll kill myself right here, right now!”
I ignored her. I didn’t believe a damn thing she said anymore.
Until I heard the sickening crack.
I turned just in time to see her body crumple beneath the column she’d thrown herself into, blood gushing like a broken dam. Her head slumped, and she collapsed in a heap, unmoving.
The phone slipped from my hand as a scream rang out behind me.
