minor scrape and couldn’t help but
roll his eyes.
He dabbed some iodine on the wound and called it a day.
Elise nestled into Alpha Jerome’s chest with teary eyes, putting on her most delicate, pitiful act.
Alpha Jerome, however, seemed
distracted, his gaze fixed on his phone.
He kept wondering–when would Audrey call?
In the past, she would fold fast. He could barely step out the door before his phone lit up with her number.
If he ignored the call, a lengthy message would follow–a heartfelt five–hundred–word essay, eloquent

Audrey always wrote beautifully. And while he’d often respond coldly, deep down he loved it–loved the way she’d beg for his attention.
But for over half a month now,
something had shifted.
Audrey had gone quiet. First, she stopped speaking to him.
Then she stopped even looking at him, treating him like air.
Alpha Jerome grew annoyed and started flirting with other women in front of her, trying to provoke her.
But she remained unbothered, expressionless—like a block of wood.
So when she lashed out and hit Elise
this time, he had indeed been angry.

But now, sitting here, Alpha Jerome couldn’t sit still.
Even if Audrey didn’t want to call, she
could at least send a text.
Elise, sharp as ever, sensed his
irritation.
She assumed he was still upset on her behalf and cooed softly, “Jerome, I’m really okay. Don’t worry about me.”
“Mm,” Alpha Jerome mumbled, barely listening, his thumb scrolling endlessly across his screen—afraid to
miss any message.
But after half an hour of nothing,
not a single word from Audrey, his patience snapped.
He stood abruptly. “I’m going out for a

Without waiting for a response, he left Elise behind and strode out.
The moment he stepped outside, he pulled out his phone and called her.
He was going to give Audrey a good scolding–how dare she cause trouble and not even beg for forgiveness?
But to his surprise, the call went unanswered. Again and again,
nothing but a busy tone.
Alpha Jerome cursed under his
breath, turned on his heel, and stormed off—Elise’s shouting echoing behind him, completely ignored.
He sped all the way home.
Bursting through the front door, he was greeted by pitch darkness.

Alpha Jerome’s brows twitched. He
moved quickly through every room— each one empty.
He stood frozen in the middle of the
hallway, stunned.
And then it hit him–Audrey had really
left?
She actually dared to run away?
Fury erupted. He kicked over a nearby flower pot, the porcelain shattering loudly on the floor.
He lit cigarette after cigarette, the anger inside slowly giving way to
unease.
Audrey had never done this before.
It’s not like he hit her–he’d just
shoved her a little.

But… why had she looked so pale, so
pained?
A gnawing feeling clawed at his gut. Alpha Jerome turned toward the softly glowing surveillance monitor.
He sat down and began scrubbing through the footage.
The video showed Elise forcing the wig onto Audrey. When that failed, the two struggled briefly before Elise fell to the ground.
Something wasn’t right.
Alpha Jerome slowed the footage down, frame by frame–and then, in one chilling instant, he saw it.
Elise’s hand. A needle. Lightning fast.
She had stabbed it straight into

She had stabbed it straight into
Audrey’s abdomen.
Alpha Jerome broke into a cold sweat.
He fast–forwarded.
After he left with Elise in his arms, the
screen showed Audrey slowly pulling the needle from her body, collapsing to her knees, doubled over in pain.
She stayed that way for a long time.
