Chapter 14
I slept through the night and woke

up at dawn, then began moving my luggage out of the house.
Halfway down the hall, my legs gave out, and I nearly stumbled to the
floor.
Thankfully, packhouse worker Daniel caught me just in time. He glanced at
the sweat on my forehead, then took
the suitcase from my hand.
“Where are you headed, Luna Audrey?
I’ve got nothing going on–think of it
as a workout.”
I gave him a grateful smile and walked alongside him.
But just as we stepped outside, I locked eyes with Alpha Jerome, who had just returned.
His gaze was icy. After sweeping his

eyes over Daniel and me, he walked right past without a word.
I let out a breath of relief–only for
him to double back moments later,
snatch the suitcase from Daniel, and
glare at me coldly.
“Where are you sending this?”
A strange feeling rose in my chest. I gave Daniel an apologetic glance before silently following Alpha Jerome to the shipping center.
As I filled out the form, Alpha Jerome suddenly spoke.
“Stop making eyes at other men. You think that looks good?”
My pen froze. A wave of nausea rolled over me, as if I’d just swallowed something vile.

I pretended not to hear and continued
writing.
Alpha Jerome frowned. The strange feeling that had been haunting him. these past few days refused to leave.
That’s when he realized–I hadn’t spoken a word to him in a long time.
I used to be constantly buzzing around him, chattering non–stop.
His throat went dry. For the first time in ages, he actually asked about something personal.
“What are you mailing? Why didn’t you tell me?”
I signed the slip and replied coolly, “Just some things I don’t need
anymore.”

He wasn’t satisfied with that answer.
His mouth opened to argue–but
before he could say a word, Elise
came bounding in and flung her arms
around him.
“Hurry up! Conrad’s waiting for us!”
Alpha Jerome’s expression instantly softened. But just as he was about to turn away, something seemed to occur to him. He grabbed my wrist.
“You’re coming too. No point staying
home all the time.”
I nearly laughed at the absurdity. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to go–he’d
just never let me.
I remembered once insisting on tagging along, out of sheer
stubbornness.

When we arrived, it was as if they’d rehearsed it–everyone took turns forcing drinks on me.
In the end, I passed out, half–naked, in
a roadside flowerbed.
Photos of me flooded the internet. I
was humiliated, mocked, and shamed by strangers.
I suffered from severe depression during that period.
Until one night, when Alpha Jerome thought I was asleep, I overheard him on the balcony with Elise.
“Your plan worked perfectly. She’s finally behaving.”
“Don’t feel bad. She brought it on herself. Always hanging around like
some desperate leech.”

Snapping out of the memory, I found myself already in the car.
Elise shot me a look of pure disdain,
not even bothering to hide it.
Soon, we arrived at the party. Alpha Jerome and Elise walked in
hand–in–hand.
Beta Conrad and his buddies rushed
out to greet them.
“Finally! We’ve got a surprise
prepared for you two-”
He trailed off when he spotted me,
a flicker of awkwardness in his
mischievous eyes.
“Oh… Audrey, you came too. Haha,
welcome, welcome.”

I saw right through his forced cneer.
“You all have fun. I’ll catch a movie or
something.”
But before I could turn away, Alpha Jerome grabbed my arm.
“You’re already here. Stop making a
scene.”
He didn’t wait for my protest. He dragged me inside.
In the private room, Elise had just queued up Beta Conrad’s surprise
video.
It was a montage of her and Alpha Jerome over the past year.
There they were, hand in hand on the
beach.
Dancing together in a crowd.
