Chapter 11
The doctor told Alpha Joseph everything. About my depression.

He sat across from me–our first
face–to–face conversation in over a
month.
When he looked at me, pain welled up in his eyes, so raw it almost spilled
over.
“Melissa,” he said, voice thick, “do you really have to keep hurting yourself
like this?”
“Do you want to leave me that
badly?”
I didn’t respond.
The truth was, I hadn’t been able to eat in days. My body trembled with every breath. Even speaking felt like a mountain too steep to climb.
Joseph just sat there, watching me.

For a long while, he said nothing. Then he sighed, deeply–like it was ripping something out of him.
“I love you,” he finally said. “I never stopped. I never wanted to leave you, and I can’t stand watching you waste away like this. But if walking away from me is the only thing that will save you… then I’ll let you go.”
My eyes widened. I stared at him,
stunned. “You… mean it?”
His eyes reddened, and he nodded. “But not now. Your body’s too weak.
Melissa, I swear to you–get better first, and I’ll take you to the airport
myself.”
I whispered, “One week.”
His answer came without hesitation. “Alright. One week.”

For the next seven days, I played my part. I took the meds. I followed the doctor’s orders. I ate. I went for walks.
I pretended to heal.
And slowly, my strength began to
return.
When the week was over, I was discharged.
Instead of taking me to the airport, Joseph brought me to the old apartment we’d once shared during the height of our love.
Everything inside looked exactly the same. Like time had frozen. Like we were still two young lovers, wrapped in the glow of a perfect beginning.
He handed me my passport and the plane ticket. I could see the hesitation

in his eyes, the unspoken ache. He was trying so hard to stay strong.
I knew he feared I’d change my mind.
-or worse, that he would.
Sensing my thoughts, he reached out and gently ruffled my hair, forcing a smile.
“Don’t look at me like that. Melissa…
would you cook for me? Just one last time. After we eat, I’ll take you to the
airport.”
I looked away and nodded.
Silently, I tied the apron around my
waist and walked into the kitchen.
I took out a worn photo of my family from my pocket, fingers trembling as I brushed over their smiling faces.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered, barely
audible. “This was all my fault. I should’ve protected you.”
“But I’ll make sure he pays for what he’s done.”
From my other pocket, I pulled out the fine powder I’d prepared days ago —crushed sleeping pills. I mixed them
carefully into every dish.
By the time we sat down to eat, the sedative had already begun to work.
Joseph swayed in his seat, using the table to steady himself. His voice was slurred, but bitterly amused. “You drugged me… Melissa, I told you I’d let you go. Why didn’t you believe
me?”
He tried to stand, stumbling toward
- me.

“Don’t be afraid,” he whispered. “Let me hold you. Just once more.”
He didn’t expect me to step into his
arms.
And he definitely didn’t expect the silver dagger I drove into his chest.
The sound that left his mouth was
more shock than pain. His body
stiffened.
But his arms didn’t let go.
He held me tight, even as I struck
again.
And again.
Until the strength drained from his limbs and I finally pulled away.

Blood soaked his shirt. My hands. The
floor.
Still, he looked at me and smiled
through the pain. “Melissa… can you forgive me now?”
I didn’t answer. His knees buckled, and he collapsed in front of me, barely able to stay conscious.
I knew Joseph had secretly replaced the sedatives prescribed to me. That’s why I didn’t give him sleeping pills.
I gave him wolfsbane.
I had planned this for a long time. I just needed the right moment. So I fed him a carefully constructed lie- that I’d use drugs to escape.
But what I hadn’t expected… was

how completely he dropped his
guard. Maybe, just maybe, he wanted
to test if I still loved him.
And that test?
It led him here.
Exactly where I wanted him.
I knelt beside him, a cold smile
playing at my lips.
“Anyone who hurt my family,” I said softly, “doesn’t deserve mercy. Forgiveness? In this life… or the next?
Never.”
Joseph looked like he already knew
the answer.
But he still did one last thing.
With a trembling hand, he pulled a

folded document from his coat and
held it out to me.
Our divorce certificate.
I stared at it for a moment. Then took
- it.
And without another word, I stood
and turned on the gas. I lit the
curtains on fire.
The flames caught fast.
I curled up on the couch, holding my family photo to my chest, waiting for
death to take me.
The fire raged, smoke thick and choking. The apartment burned
around me.
But just as everything was about to
collapse-

In his wolf form, he heaved me onto
his back and barreled through the window, leaping from the eighth floor.
CRASH.
We hit the ground hard.
And only then did he collapse beside me, blood still dripping from his wounds, but his expression finally at
peace.
Melissa… if this is what you truly wanted… I’ll give it to you.
Even if it costs me my life.
I’m sorry.

As the world faded around him,
Alpha Joseph saw her–the
eighteen–year–old girl in a white dress, running toward him with a radiant
smile.
“Joseph! Dinner’s ready! Mom, Dad, and Mia have been waiting forever!”
The End.
Book 2:
At the pack’s celebration, my fated mate–my husband, Alpha Jerome- stumbled into our bedroom with his lover, Elise, clinging to his side.
Moments later, the unmistakable sounds of moaning filtered through the door.

I just stood there, numb, unmoving, outside the room … waiting, like always, for his orders.
I don’t know how long I stood there
before he emerged, shirtless and smug, wrapped in nothing but a
towel. He tossed a few bills at my feet
like I was a servant.
“Go get me some condoms. Three’s not enough.”
I didn’t flinch. Didn’t even blink.
His best friend, lounging on the couch with a drink, grinned and tried to
break the awkward tension. “Luna
Audrey’s probably still sulking. I’ll go.”
Jerome opened his mouth, probably
to make another jab at me–but I bent down and picked up the money.

That was enough to set them off.
Laughter exploded around the room.
“Pay up! What did I say? She’d kneel and grab the cash without a word!”
Their mockery rang in my ears, sharp and cruel, but I didn’t react. I didn’t
need to.
They all thought I was desperately in
love with Alpha Jerome.
The truth?
I stayed for the money.
Now the debts are paid.
And I’m finally ready…to walk away.
