Chapter 9 She’s Gone
Early in the morning, Michael stood by the bedroom window, holding an old moonstone necklace.
It was the gift he had planned to give Lily when he was ready to introduce her to the pack at the ceremony.
She was just one step away from becoming his Luna.
Now, he gazed at the necklace in silence for a long time before closing his eyes and throwing it away.
It vanished into the quiet morning.

A few days later, Lily returned from the hospital and noticed a car parked outside her house.
Michael was leaning against it, waiting for her.
It reminded her of the times at the training camp when he would wait outside her dorm.
Lily hid the medicine she had brought and walked over to him. ‘Are you looking for me?”
Michael glanced at her, immediately noticing how much weight she had lost and how pale she looked.
He swallowed hard but didn’t ask. Instead, he took out an invitation and handed it to her.
Lily’s heart stopped when she saw it, and she froze.
After a long pause, Michael spoke.
“Harvest Day is coming. I’ll be introducing Melanie to the pack as my Luna. I just wanted to tell you. Don’t come, and don’t wish us well.”
So, he despises me so much that he doesn’t even want me there on Harvest Day!
Lily shivered as she took the invitation but didn’t dare to meet his gaze.
She simply nodded. “Okay”
A week before Harvest Day, Lily packed her things at Alpha Manor, ready to leave.
Michael had a new mate now, and he didn’t want her around. She had no reason to stay anymore.
Three days before Harvest Day, Lily counted her assets over the years.
She had managed pack affairs for Michael, earning a salary in return. Over time, she had saved a considerable amount of money. Without hesitation, she donated every cent to the pack’s orphanage.
Two days before Harvest Day, Lily visited the cemetery,
She purchased a burial plot right beside Jessica’s. She turned to the staff and said, “Leave my tombstone blank.”
There wouldn’t be anyone to mourn her anyway.
This way, if Michael’s family ever saw it, they wouldn’t realize it was her and wouldn’t feel troubled by it.
On the eve of Harvest Day, Lily began putting her affairs in order.
She contacted the garbage service to clear out everything in her house. By the time they finished, only a single cardboard box remained.

Inside were fragments of her past–her and Michael’s graduation certificates from training camp, the tickets from their first movie date, their photographs, the necklace he had gifted her, and the letters they had exchanged.
Lily lit a brazier.
She fed the fire those cherished memories, watching them turn to ash–things she had clung to on countless lonely nights,
She remained in the empty house, unmoving, until dawn.
Today was Harvest Day–the day Michael would introduce his mate to the pack.
He had found his Luna, and it wasn’t her.
Lily slowly stood up, her gaze landing on a smear of crimson staining the floor.
She reached up, her fingers coming away wet with blood.
She didn’t care. Unsteady on her feet, she stumbled outside.
The sky was unusually clear today, yet Lily’s body still trembled as she walked, blood trickling down her skin.
Passersby looked at her in astonishment, but she paid them no attention, pressing forward until she reached a bridge.
Beneath it, a deep, endless river stretched below, its waters dark and frigid.
Lily sat on the bridge and called the hospital.
“I’m going to die today,” she said flatly. “Please arrange for my body to be collected and proceed with the wolf fang donation immediately.
Hanging up, she gazed at the river, her bloodied face was calm as a faint smile curved her lips. At last, it was over. Relief washed over her.
While Michael spent his night with his Luna, she would be sinking into the icy depths. That was the only ending that made
sense.
Her smile lingered as she closed her eyes. Without hesitation, she leaped forward.
Farewell, Michael.
Half an hour later, at the Harvest Day ceremony, Michael stood at the stage, dressed sharply in his suit.
His mind was elsewhere when Melanie approached in her ceremonial werewolf robes.
A voice from his memories echoed in his head.
“Lily, what kind of ceremony would you like?”
“I want something simple–a quiet ceremony in front of the Moon Goddess Sanctuary. I’ll wear traditional werewolf robes, and only our closest friends will be there. Jessica will place the moonstone necklace on me, and the werewolf priest will bless us under the Moon Goddess’s gaze. Our souls will be bonded forever–we’ll be mates for life.”
“You’ll be the Luna of the Bluemoon Pack’s Alpha. The whole pack should witness it. How could it be that simple?”
“Michael, I never said I wanted to be your Luna!”
Back then, neither of them imagined how true those words would become.
All Michael could see was Lily’s face as he mechanically went through the ceremony.
Just as he and Melanie were about to exchange the moonstone, his assistant rushed over.

“Alpha, your phone has been ringing nonstop.”
Michael frowned. “Can’t you see what’s happening right now?”
The assistant hesitated. “I know, but it’s been going off for a while. It might be important.”
Annoyed, Michael finally took the phone.
It was an unknown number, and he answered.
The voice on the other end was furious.
It was Louis.
Michael’s expression turned icy. “Louis, this better be important.”
Only one sentence came in response, but Michael instantly went pale.
The phone slipped from his hand and hit the ground.
A second later, the entire crowd watched in shock as their Alpha bolted off the stage like a madman.
Behind him, Melanie kept calling his name.
But he didn’t stop. He didn’t even hear her. All he could hear was Louis‘ voice echoing in his head.
“Michael, Lily is dead!”
