Lily had been at the cemetery for a long time. Just as she was about to leave, she froze when she saw a group of people walking toward her.
Among them, Michael was the first to notice her.
It was the first time since the accident that Lily and Michael had crossed paths. His face darkened when he saw the flowers at Jessica’s grave.
Ophelia, his mother, immediately spotted Lily and rushed over, grabbing her in anger.
She slapped Lily hard and yelled, “Who allowed you to come here? Leave!”
The slap made Lily dizzy, and she stumbled back.

Shut up!” Ophelia screamed. “You don’t deserve to be here! Jessica died because of you! Get lost!”
Lily’s left cheek swelled quickly, and she endured the pain, not daring to speak.
Alex. Michael’s father, quickly stepped in and tried to calm Ophelia. “Lily! Go now! Don’t come back!”
But Ophelia wasn’t done. She looked at the flowers on the ground, broke free from Alex’s grasp, picked them up, and angrily. threw them at Lily, crying heartbreakingly.
“Stop pretending you care! If you hadn’t run away that day, if you had stayed to help her, Jessica wouldn’t have died so horribly! There were five Rogues! You left her to be tortured by all of them! When she died, her lower body… was covered in injuries!”
Ophelia’s hatred for Lily was overwhelming.
Though everyone knew that even if Lily hadn’t run away, the outcome would have been the same, with both of them getting
into trouble.
But the tragedy of Jessica’s death made people blind with anger.
They resented Lily for not letting Jessica be the one who survived.
Those Rogues were condemned to suffer in the dungeon forever, and Lily was sentenced to a lifetime of guilt.
Ophelia sobbed as she struck Lily repeatedly. “Jessica was so young and kind! How could you abandon her? Why did you leave her alone
Overcome with grief, she shoved Lily away. “Why did Jessica have to die? Why is it you who’s still alive?”
Lily lost her balance, hitting her head against a nearby tombstone. Blood trickled down her forehead.
Michael’s fists clenched tightly. As Lily unsteadily got to her feet, he grabbed her wrist in a harsh grip.
“Mom, don’t get worked up in front of Jessica. I’ll take her away?
Without hesitation, he dragged Lily out of the cemetery.
Once outside, he shoved her to the ground.
Michael looked grim, gritting his teeth. “Are you trying to die? I told you never to come back here.
His voice burned with anger, but something else lurked behind his eyes.

With that, he turned and walked away, leaving the werewolf warriors to force her out.
His final words cut through her like a blade.
Tears streamed down her face as she wandered along the road.
Jessica’s voice echoed in her mind–painfully clear.
“Lily, we both have bracelets. That means we’re best friends forever. You’re not allowed to leave me.
“Lily, I saw my brother sharpening his wolf fang yesterday. He wants to introduce you to the pack on Harvest Day.
“He’s going to be by your side from now on. It’ll be even harder for me to sneak away with you. How about we go see a movie tonight!
“Lily, run! Run!”
Lily’s tears blurred her vision.
Jessica, do you know how much I regret not protecting you? I should have let you escape first.
If I had died instead, no one would be grieving.
As a lowly orphan like her, her life never mattered anyway.
If she had been the one to die that night, maybe Michael would have loved her forever.
Maybe things wouldn’t have ended this way.
The thoughts consumed her, the pain unbearable. At last, she broke down. Overwhelmed, she collapsed to the ground, sobbing uncontrollably,
