Chapter 18 Mate’s Embracement
She agreed!
A moment ago, Louis had impulsively hugged Lily, and now he didn’t want to let go.
He had always been worried, especially after seeing the Michael who loved her so deeply, that Lily might change her mind.
Lily turned her head and saw that Louis’s ears were bright red. She couldn’t help but laugh. “How long do you plan to hold
on?
“Cici isn’t here,” Louis said in a quiet voice, “Let me hold you a bit longer, Lily.”
His wolf was nearly frantic with the need for Lily.
He had been a sensible madman for over a decade.
Now, he wanted to give his wolf a little taste of sweetness.
“Alright.”
Lily shifted into her wolf form, letting out a low whimper.
Louis immediately shifted into his wolf form, leaping onto the chaise lounge.
The two wolf mates, basking in the warm winter sunlight, curled up together and took a nap.
Golden light bathed their warm fur, and motes of dust sparkled in the sunbeams, dancing on their faces and bodies like gentle, living brushstrokes of a tender painting.
They slept in each other’s embrace for a long time
In the days leading up to Lily’s surgery, a luxurious meal cart mysteriously appeared outside her hospital room door.
Louis would deliberately knock over those meals and dispose of them.
Michael, you’ll never get to feed Lily your food, Louis thought.
They both knew those fancy meals were from Michael.
Lily was also aware of Louis’s habit of dumping the soups and dishes, but neither of them mentioned this spirit–dampening
maller.
With one day left before the surgery, Louis went out to buy groceries.
Lily had given him a book list; she’d taken up reading recently, and Louis had added a new task to his daily routine–visiting the bookstore to find the books she wanted.
Her list included works on philosophy and psychology, as well as light reads that a teenage girl might enjoy. Sometimes Louis would tease her for being childish, yet he would willingly travel miles to fetch the books, just to keep her entertained.
Today’s list seemed especially long. Louis glanced at it and sighed, “No idea when I’ll be done with this. You’re getting out in couple of days. We’ll have to haul all these books back home!”
“KII donate them to the hospital’s reading corner,” Lily pouted. “Now go and get them for me.”
“Alright, alright. Louis shook his head, jingling his car keys as he left.
Soon after he departed, Michael came knocking.

Laly had anticipated his visit and had sent Louis away, not because there was anything she didn’t want him to hear or know, but knowing Louis’s personality–prone to jealousy and overthinking–she didn’t want him to waste energy obsessing over it.
Lily felt responsible for settling her own emotional debts.
Michael entered, looking far more composed than before, though he still carrying the luxurious food tray. Their suspicions were confirmed; he was indeed the one leaving the meals at her door.
“Stop bringing these from now on, Lily said softly. “It makes him overthink.”
Michael had investigated and found out that Cici wasn’t Lily and Louis’s biological child. Given Lily’s wolfsbane syndrome, there was no way she could have borne and raised a child of that age in three years.
He lowered his head and opened the tray, placing a bowl of beef soup on the bedside table, pushing it towards Lily. This is your favorite.”
“No, thank you, Alpha Michael? Lily smiled. “Did you make this soup yourself?”
Michael was startled that she had guessed and looked a bit awkward. “Yes, why don’t you try it?”
Lily showed no émotion as she poured the soup onto the floor.
The liquid splattered onto Michael’s pant leg, and his face instantly fell.
Lily said, “The one who loved soup was Jessica, not me.”
Michael’s lips turned a dull shade of purple as he staggered to his feet. Tm sorry, Lily.”
He looked for a mop, unable to find one, and ended up using his expensive suit jacket to wipe up the spill on the floor before. leaving.
Watching his retreating figure, Lily sighed softly.
She didn’t hate Michael, but she knew Louis carried many insecurities. If she didn’t stop Michael’s behavior, it would be unfair to Louis.
When Louis returned and noticed no more meals at the door, he grunted, “That didn’t last long.”
Leafing through the books he had brought back, Lily smiled and said nothing.
