She had been with the company for just over two weeks, and not a single one of Sam’s speculations had come true. Aside from the overwhelming busyness, the salary she received made the pay from her previous job look like pocket change.
Finally, the end of her shift arrived. Her coworker, who was also quite young, chuckled after hearing about Lucy’s anxieties before starting the job. “You think so highly of yourself! Do you have any idea how many stunning women line up to be Alpha’s mistress? With a body like his, if he wanted to sleep with me, I’d be thrilled!”
Lucy laughed awkwardly, realizing just how absurd her thoughts had been.
Michael usually hurried past her desk without so much as a glance in her direction. However, as he walked by the assistants‘ area today, he caught sight of the two girls whispering together and, surprisingly, smiled softly. His eyes softened, and Lucy quickly stood up, bowing slightly. “Alpha!”
Michael nodded. ‘Are you settling in!”
“Everything is fine.”
Michael smiled at this and briskly walked away. Lucy, holding her face, couldn’t help but gush, “He’s so handsome and so gentle. It’s just that Alpha Michael is way too thin. Is he on a diet?”
Alpha has never been too fond of food, Sam said, smiling at her. “It’s okay to think about him, but don’t fall for him.”
Lucy shivered at this, shaking her head solemnly. “Absolutely not.”
As Michael passed the two young women, he thought of Lily playing with Jessica. They were like two little creatures whispering conspiratorially, a beautiful scene Michael longed to return to, but he couldn’t. There was no way; there’s no taking back the past.
Today, he was heading to the hospital to meet a newly hired senior werewolf doctor. Dressed in a thin, formal suit, a chill spread across his neck and arms, but he didn’t turn on the car’s heater.
In that moment, he remembered Lily, who he had cruelly turned away, left to shiver in the winter cold of the Bluemoon Pack.
This was his way of punishing himself.
At the hospital, someone immediately came out to greet him. “Sorry, Alpha Michael, Dr. Turing is currently with the family of a critically ill patient. Could you wait for a moment?”
Michael nodded in agreement.
While waiting, a small figure suddenly bumped into his leg. Michael looked down to see a little girl with a strawberry hair tie, slightly dazed but not crying. She looked up at him.
He recognized her–she was the young werewolf cub he had seen in Bluemoon Valley.
She was Cici, Louis’s niece. Louis had worked at this hospital, Michael knew, but he had left. Why was he back with his child?
Where is Louis?
Countless questions swirled in Michael’s mind, but his immediate concern was ensuring Cici didn’t wander off into danger.
Michael crouched down to meet Cici’s eyes, and she looked back at him warily. He extended his hand, but she took a step back, wrinkling her nose in defiance. “You’re the bad man Uncle Louis talks about.”
Why are you here alone?” Michael wasn’t offended by her innocent words. He was just worried she might get lost. He noticed. a beautiful, old–fashioned moonstone necklace around her neck.

A heavy weight seemed to strike Michael’s heart, stealing his breath. He grabbed Cici’s tiny arm, his tone urgent. “Where did. you get this necklace?”
“It’s from Mommy, Cici said, her eyes wide and fearful. “Mister, you’re hurting me…

In a blur, Michael was shoved aside by an enraged Louis. Holding Cici protectively, he glared at Michael. “What are you trying to do, Michael?!”
Michael ignored his own disheveled state, stepping forward with desperate hope in his eyes as he looked at Cici. “Tell me, what’s your mother’s name?”
Terrified, Cici burst into tears, clinging tightly to Louis’s neck and refusing to look at Michael. When Michael moved closer, Louis punched him hard in the face.
“Get lost!” he shouted at the fallen Michael, his wolf baring its teeth, ready to attack. “Are you putting on a show of remorse now, Michael!! You’re the one who hurt Lily, and now you’re acting crazy! If you’re sick, go get help. Next time I see you, I’ll beat you up again!”
