Kendra could barely hide her delight.

Now everything made sense-no wonder Jeremy had brought her home and let her stay in what used to be Aliana’s

room.

So that was it. This was the surprise he’d been keeping from her all along.

“Jeremy, so that’s what it was. You actually didn’t agree to withdraw the divorce petition for Aliana this time,” Kendra said, her gaze shy and hopeful.

But he felt nothing at all.

How could Aliana leave him? How could she actually go through with the divorce? The thought echoed in his mind.

At that moment, Kendra’s voice faded into the background. He couldn’t hear a thing she said. It took him a long while before he could force out a single sentence through clenched teeth.

“Get out.”

“What?” Kendra was caught off guard.

“I said get out, Keandra!” he roared, summoning the security guards, who dragged a shrieking Kendra out of the house.

In the now-empty living room, Jeremy crumpled to the floor, clutching his head in his hands.

The woman who had loved him so humbly for eight years, the woman who had begged for reconciliation eight differ- ent times-how could she really be gone?

He slammed his fist into the wall, knuckles splitting and bleeding, but all he felt was a bitter sense of irony.

“She must be testing me,” he thought.

He called for his assistant, his tone icy and sharp.

“Pull up every video recording of Aliana from the past few days. I want to see exactly what kind of game she’s play- ing.

“If I find out she’s lying, this time it won’t be as simple as just filing for divorce.”

Late that night, the assistant returned with a flash drive, his face grave.

“Mr. Corwin, we’ve gathered everything, but…”

“But what?”

“It might not be what you expect.”

Jeremy watched for a few seconds, then plugged the drive into his computer.

The screen flickered to life. Jeremy randomly clicked on a date-

It was the day of the cruise incident.

When he reached the last recording, he froze.

After he’d left that day, Aliana had walked into the courthouse alone, calmly accepted the divorce certificate, and then disappeared from the security cameras, dragging her suitcase behind her.

Jeremy watched the footage in silence, feeling utterly drained.

Suddenly, he realized that Aliana had tried to explain herself to him so many times.

He’d always dismissed it, thinking she was just jealous, never giving it another thought.

Looking back now, this time she hadn’t pleaded with him at all.

It was as if Aliana’s heart had died from the very start.

How could that be possible?

He shook his head violently. She was just angry-once he found her, they could remarry. Everything would be fine.

He called for his assistant again.

“Find Aliana. I don’t care where she is-just find her! Tell her I want to get remarried, and she shouldn’t joke around like this.” His voice turned cold. “And bring Kendra to me. There are some things I want to ask her myself.”

Soon, the doorbell rang. Kendra entered, smoothing her dress, her confidence unshaken.

“Jeremy, you wanted to see me?”

He stared at her, flashes of the surveillance footage running through his mind-her faking injuries, pretending to jump from the building. Rage overtook him, wiping out any last shred of reason.

He remembered how, for this woman, he’d locked Aliana in the shock room and forced her to give blood.

All those “games” he’d played to “spice up their relationship” were nothing but torture for her.

Jeremy snapped, losing all control, and grabbed Kendra by the throat.
