Can’t Bear Your Tough Love 2

Chapter 2

Jeremy froze for a moment, then seemed a little flustered. “Aliana Milton, you agreed that easily?”

I pulled my lips into a half-smile. “What difference does it make if I don’t?”

Seeing how indifferent I was, his face darkened instantly.

For the next two days, Jeremy acted like a petulant child, deliberately flaunting his closeness with Kendra in front of

When Kendra won a major art competition, he went all out, renting an entire yacht to throw her a celebration party.

At the party, he barely left her side, shielding her from drinks, carrying her bag, doting on her in a way that bordered on absurd.

The guests whispered among themselves, saying Jeremy treated his childhood sweetheart with the utmost care, but was cold as stone to his wife. If I hadn’t begged him to stay, this marriage would’ve ended long ago.

I tuned out the gossip and slipped away to the deck for some air.

“Finally can’t take it anymore?” Kendra’s mocking voice came from behind me. “If I were you, I’d have left ages ago.”

I didn’t turn around, letting the chilly wind brush across my face. “Don’t worry. I’ll be gone soon.”

“Trying to play hard to get? That doesn’t work on Jeremy. You chased him for five years, married him for three, and he’s never looked your way for even a second. Isn’t that pathetic?” Kendra sneered. “You really think if I pushed you overboard right now, he’d even care?”

Before she finished speaking, a powerful shove sent me plunging into the sea.

Icy water swallowed me in an instant.

Just as I was about to lose consciousness, I saw a figure rush over like a madman, diving into the water without hesi- tation.

“Aliana!”

Jeremy’s voice was hoarse and frantic, more desperate than I’d ever heard. He swam toward me with all his strength, his arms like iron bands locking around my waist.

As the waves rocked around us, I saw the terror in his reddened eyes, so vivid and raw that for a moment, I couldn’t tell if it was real.

When we were dragged ashore, I coughed violently, and he knelt on the cold, wet deck to give me mouth-to-mouth, his long fingers trembling uncontrollably.

His leg had been cut open by something in the rescue, blood streaking down, but he seemed oblivious to the pain. Only when I finally coughed up the seawater did his tense shoulders relax, and he let out a heavy sigh of relief.

But in the next instant, his face hardened, as if he’d suddenly come to his senses.

He sprang to his feet, his old icy demeanor snapping back into place.

“You’re a grown woman. Can’t even stand steady on a boat?”

Soaked and shivering, I sat slumped on the deck, my nails digging into my palms. “Kendra pushed me.”

Kendra rushed over, tears streaming down her face. “I didn’t! Aliana, how could you accuse me like that?”

I gave a cold, mirthless laugh and pulled out my still-damp phone.

“Not going to admit it? Then let’s have the police pull the security footage. Attempted murder is a serious charge,

Kendra.”

My finger had barely touched the dial button when Jeremy seized my wrist, his grip so tight his knuckles pressed into my skin.

“That’s enough. Kendra didn’t mean it. Drop it.”

“She almost killed me!” I stared up at him in disbelief, the salty wind burning my throat.

“You’re fine now, aren’t you?” Jeremy’s tone grew heavy, his gaze warning. “Don’t make a scene.”

Suddenly, the whole thing struck me as absurd.

I knew he needed Kendra to provoke my jealousy.

But did this ridiculous game really have to put my life on the line?

I laughed through my tears, stubbornly trying to call the police.

Seeing this, Kendra put on a wounded look and ran off, covering her face.

Jeremy’s expression went cold in an instant, and he snatched my phone away.

“You’re not thinking straight. You need some time to reflect.”

With that, he waved over a bodyguard.

“Take her to the shock room. Don’t let her come out unless she’s calmed down.”
