“I could go home and rest.”
Andrea pulled back the covers, moving a bit too quickly and causing some discomfort to her still–healing wound. She frowned but didn’t say anything.
Roderick grabbed her wrist and asked, “What’s wrong with you?”
His voice had a hint of panic Andrea had never heard before, “Did someone talk to you last night?”
Andrea was about to answer when the hospital room door was gently knocked.
“Come in.”
She raised her voice and took the opportunity to pull back her hand.
The door opened, and Quinn walked in carrying a bouquet of white baby’s breath.
He was wearing a simple white shirt and beige casual pants, looking clean and gentle.
He glanced around the room, and then he smiled politely.
“Sorry, did I come at a bad time?”
Roderick’s face turned pale in an instant.
He stood up, casting a tall shadow in the hospital room, “Why are you here?”

Quinn ignored him, put the flowers on the bedside table, and said gently to Andrea, “I heard you got hurt and I’ve been wanting to come see you. But I’ve been busy wrapping up that project, so I only managed to make time today.”
He paused and asked, “Are you feeling better?”
Andrea nodded, “Thanks for asking, I’m much better now.”
“Did they catch the person who bullied you?” Quinn asked, frowning slightly.
“If you need help, just ask.”
Roderick suddenly interrupted, his voice as cold as ice, “How did Mr. Shillingford know about my sister being bullied? This shouldn’t have been made public.”
Quinn turned to Roderick, looking calm, “That club is my property. The manager reported to me immediately after the incident about the surveillance footage anomalies.”
The air in the ward seemed to freeze in an instant.
Andrea saw Roderick’s jaw clenched tight, his fingers balled into fists.
“Mr. Shillingford was a bit too lenient.”
Roderick said slowly, “Our family’s business, none of your concern.
Quinn was firm but polite: “Ms. Rehbein got hurt at my place, so as the manager, the safety of the guests naturally concerns me.”
He looked at Andrea, his eyes softened, “If you need to rest, I can come back another day.”
Andrea was about to speak when Roderick grabbed her coat and said,

“No need, we’re leaving the hospital now.”
He roughly helped Andrea put on her coat, then turned to Quinn, “Thanks for caring, Mr. Shillingford, but I’ll take care of my own.”
“Roderick!”
Andrea struggled a bit, “I can walk by myself.”
Roderick ignored her protests and just scooped her up horizontally.
Andrea exclaimed and instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck.
This action seemed to please him, Roderick’s mouth curved into a victorious smile, and he strode towards the door.
Passing by Quinn, he whispered, “Stay away from her.”
Quinn stood still, with a smile on his face that didn’t change at all, but his eyes had already turned cold. “It’s up to Ms. Rehbein to decide, isn’t it?”
Andrea was held in Roderick’s arms, feeling his strong heartbeat in his chest.
She looked up at him and saw his jaw clenched, his eyes filled with a familiar possessiveness and another more complex emotion.
Fear.
He was scared, scared of losing her.
This realization made Andrea’s heart soften in a corner.
She stopped struggling, leaning quietly against his chest, listening to his strong heartbeat,
The lights in the corridor passed overhead one by one, and she
suddenly felt very tired, too tired to think about right or wrong, too tired to distinguish truth from falsehood.
