- 10.
After the awards ceremony, as I was about to
fly back, my mom suddenly called. She’d set
me up on a blind date.
I couldn’t really refuse her good intentions, so
I went to meet the guy.
But I never, ever expected him to be a friend of Declan’s.
When I found him, he was having dinner at
Declan’s current home.
Noelle was in a wheelchair, holding a baby, a
look of pure joy on her face.
Declan froze when he saw me.
Then, surprise flickered across his face.
“Sierra, you’re Miles’s blind date?”
Miles was the guy I was supposed to meet.
I turned to leave, but Miles grabbed my arm,
looking embarrassed. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know
you knew Declan, so I suggested meeting
bore !!
Out of politeness, I stayed.
Noelle was looking at me strangely, a hint of
dislike in her eyes.
Well, I was a big star now.
It was only natural she’d be wary, afraid I’d try to steal her man.
During dinner, Declan kept putting food on
my plate.
“I remember you love braised beef. Eat up,”
he said.
Yes, I used to love braised beef.
But when I was with him, I rarely got to eat it.
We could only afford it when he got paid, or when I did.
Now, looking at the braised beef in my bowl, I
felt nauseous.
“Declan, what do you think you’re doing?!”
STEL
Noelle snapped.
The baby in her arms started wailing.
Declan’s face changed instantly, and he
rushed to soothe the child.
I suddenly remembered how he’d used me for
seven years, all for Noelle.
Seven years of my youth, wasted on him.
It was too disgusting.
I couldn’t take it anymore. I stood up and left.
