Chapter 12
In the evening, a black sedan drove up to the edge of the pack’s territory, stopping at the boundary.
A young man got out of the passenger side, and the car immediately sped away from the pack
territory.
He lit a cigarette and swaggered his way in.
Dressed casually, his face was handsome, with a touch of rebelliousness and recklessness in his
eyes.
When Natalia saw Rowan, she quickly emerged from behind a tree, frowning sharply.
“Are you crazy? You drove straight to the pack boundary? You’re making such a spectacle of
yourself!”
Rowan leaned in close to Natalia, blowing a puff of smoke in her face, and smirked.
“What’s there to be afraid of? You think Dante doesn’t know about us?”
Natalia coughed from the smoke, stepping back a couple of paces, frowning.
Rowan lazily propped himself against a tree, crossing one leg over the other as his
her with deliberate scrutiny.
“Calling me here for a reunion? Regret turning me down now?”
She cut straight to the point. “The baby’s yours.”
“What?”
Rowan’s dark eyes widened, his smoking hand freezing, and he coughed violently.
He stared at Natalia, both shocked and delighted.
“It’s mine? You’re not lying to me?”
Natalia shot him a look of disdain, muttering softly.
“I wish the father were Dante…”
“Natalia!” Rowan snapped, his voice sharp with frustration.
“Enough. I need to talk to you,” Natalia said, her tone suddenly serious.

She told him that Dante didn’t know the child wasn’t his, and she also informed him that Dante was planning to head to Crisanta soon.
Rowan listened carefully, then snuffed out his cigarette on the table, narrowing his eyes.
“So what you’re saying is, if Dante goes to Crisanta, all his assets will automatically go to Evelyn, and our child will have no claim to his fortune?”
Natalia nodded, a calculating glint flashing in her eyes.
Rowan was her ex, and he was from the Nightwind pack.
The Nightwind pack was located near Briarcliff, adjacent to Frosthaven. It was one of the most powerful packs in the area, much larger than the Stormwatch pack.
Unfortunately, when she had been dating Rowan, she hadn’t known he was an illegitimate child.
The Nightwind pack had strict rules. Any child without pure Alpha blood couldn’t become the pack’s Alpha.
As a result, Rowan had spent all these years living off meager allowances from his parents, with no
real authority in the pack and no claim to any of its wealth.
Natalia, her hand resting on her belly, stood in the dim shadows of the trees, her voice icy.
“Go to Crisantia. Find a way to deal with Evelyn.”
Rowan froze for a moment as he lit another cigarette, staring at Natalia in surprise.
“You want me to kill her? That’s pretty ruthless.”
A cold, murderous aura spread around Natalia as she spoke.
“If you want power, you can’t afford mercy. Dante is the most likely successor to the entire Stormwatch Pack and its empire. Once my son becomes Alpha, you’ll get your share of the
rewards.”
She paused and narrowed her eyes.
“Rowan, in your pack, you’ll never amount to anything. You’ll always be treated as a second–class citizen by the elders, your parents, and your brothers. You’ll forever be nothing but an illegitimate son. If they ever cast you out, you’ll become a rogue. But if you kill Evelyn and stop Dante from going to Crisantia, I’ll make sure my son rises to power. And when he does, I’ll ensure you never

have to grovel before your pack again.”
Her words hung heavy in the darkened forest, sharp and unyielding.
Rowan stared up at the moon for a long moment before reaching out as if to grasp it.
“Alright. I’ll book a flight for tomorrow.”
Before leaving, Rowan grabbed Natalia’s chin, his eyes dark and menacing.
“If you dare double–cross me, I’ll kill you.”
Meanwhile, in the Soulstone pack in Crisanta, Evelyn had just finished her Alpha training. She was lounging on a wicker chair on the balcony, enjoying the warmth of the fire.
For the past month, she had been far removed from toxic relationships and had immersed herself in her studies.
She looked radiant, her energy completely renewed.
Just as she was about to take a sip of hot cocoa, her phone suddenly rang.
On the other end, Felicity’s voice carried a teasing tone.
“Dante is sending you a handwritten love letter every day. Have you seen them?”
Evelyn frowned, as if she had just heard something ridiculous, her face full of distaste.
“Handwritten love letters? What a waste of paper. He stuffed my mailbox so full I couldn’t even close it. I tossed the whole pile into the fireplace–made for a nice, warm fire.”
Felicity burst out laughing, clearly enjoying herself, then continued recounting all the ridiculous things Dante had been doing lately. But then, her tone suddenly shifted as she said-
“I heard that in a month, Dante plans to come to Crisanta to find you.”
Evelyn’s hand froze mid–sip.
“I won’t see him.”
On the other end, Felicity stirred her coffee.
“I know. I just don’t want Dante to come looking for you. If the agreement from five years ago kicks in and you don’t reconcile with him, he’ll end up with nothing. I’m worried about what he might do

in that case.”
Evelyn froze, and it immediately dawned on her.
Felicity’s call this time was to remind her to be cautious.
Felicity truly was her best friend.
“I’ll be careful.”
After hanging up, Evelyn didn’t mention the matter about Dante to her parents.
They had been worrying about her a lot lately, and were ready to announce that she would take over the Soulstone pack, making her the Alpha of the pack
In the afternoon, after Rosalie returned from a pack meeting, she gently knocked on Evelyn’s door.
“Evelyn, come with us for dinner tomorrow night. I’d like to introduce you to someone.”
Evelyn looked up from her book, replying obediently, “Okay.”
The next evening, Evelyn drove her parents to the dinner venue, unaware of a black car trailing
closely behind her.
The restaurant was a cliffside place by the sea, offering a breathtaking view of snowy mountains
and fjords through the windows.
Evelyn had only just sat down when she stood up again to wash her hands.
As she walked down the corridor, she was entranced by the view of the sea.
The vast ocean, paired with the cool breeze, was something she truly enjoyed.
Just as Evelyn was lost in the beauty of the scene, a dark figure suddenly approached.
The man placed his hands on her shoulders and shoved her with force.
Evelyn lost her balance and instinctively reached for the railing. Before she could steady herself,
the man pushed her again.
She fell heavily, plunging into the icy waters below.
