Hearing this, Laura stopped in her tracks and turned to Madelyn with a smile. “Since Cameron isn’t here, someone else will have to take his place for the engagement!”
“So… you want to switch grooms at the engagement party?”
“Shh!” Laura made a silencing gesture towards Madelyn. “Just wait and see what happens!”
Downstairs in the lobby, everything seemed normal. Guests were chatting and laughing, not showing any signs of the groom’s absence.
But as the time for the engagement approached and only Laura appeared, some guests began to whisper among themselves, their looks at Laura turning somewhat peculiar.
Rumor had it that this second young lady of the Wilson family was head–over–heels in love with Cameron, but he got his heart set on someone else.
With everyone from both the Wilson and Weaver families present except Cameron, it was pretty clear what was going on.
On an engagement day, the groom went missing, making this young lady of the Wilson family the ultimate laughingstock.
Madelyn couldn’t take it anymore, her fists clenched, ready to pick a fight. “Laura, Cameron’s the one in the wrong. Why are they judging you like that?”
Guess I’m just meant to be the one left behind in their eyes!” Laura noticed those mocking glances too, her eyes growing colder, hands clenching until her nails dug into her palms.
Without Bowen, she might really have been humiliated by Cameron to the point of losing the will to live.
Meanwhile, the Wilsons and Cameron’s mother were frantic as they couldn’t locate Cameron anywhere, and his phone was unreachable.

“Laura, Cameron has some urgent matters and can’t make it here. Maybe we should postpone this engagement?
Laura turned to her with a blank expression. “Mrs. Weaver, Cameron didn’t just have something urgent. He ran away from the wedding, right?”
Upon hearing this, Nyla immediately darkened her face. “What do you mean by ‘ran away? Cameron really has important matters to attend to. Laura, you love him so much. Can’t you be more understanding?”
“That’s quite interesting, Nyla, Bowen sneered, his tone icy.
“Cameron may be busy, but is he busier than me? I arrived on time, yet he didn’t show up. What else could it be but a runaway groom?
“I heard from a friend at the hospital that Cameron just brought in a girl with a scraped knee. And he seemed pretty frantic about it!”
“Bowen, what nonsense are you spouting!” Nyla’s face turned pale, her voice rising. involuntarily.
“Enough!” Russell slammed the table hard, turning to Laura. “Laura, you decide how to handle this. We’ll go by your decision.”
“Russell, Cameron doesn’t care about my feelings at all. He’s made me lose face in front of all these important people in Ronson City. I can’t go through with this engagement, Laura said, all pitiful.
“But I promised your grandfather…” Russell hesitated.
“Father, I have an idea.” Suddenly, Bowen slowly stood up, dropping a bombshell that left everyone speechless.
“Since Cameron ran away from the wedding, we can’t let our pride turn Laura into gossip fodder for the city’s elite.
“So, we can’t cancel this engagement. I’ll marry Laura.”
