The day of Laura and Cameron’s engagement finally arrived.
Though the Wilson family wasn’t a big clan in Ronson, the Weaver family was the top. aristocratic family. For this engagement party, they booked the biggest hotel in
Ronson to host their quests.
In the lounge, Madelyn couldn’t help but gush over Laura’s stunning appearance. “Baby, you look amazing today!”
Laura glanced at her dress and smiled. “It’s okay.”
“Hey, don’t be modest! If you call yourself okay with that stunning look, what hope do we mere averages have?”
After teasing Laura, Madelyn checked her phone and frowned. “It’s almost time for the engagement. Cameron only showed up briefly this morning and hasn’t been seen since. How come he never comes over to talk to you? Doesn’t he worry you’ll feel
nervous?”
“It’s fine,” Laura said calmly. “It’s better if he doesn’t show up.”
But deep down, she was wondering if Bowen had planned for Cameron to not show
- up.
Madelyn looked at Laura seriously upon hearing this. “Baby, when we had that video call, I noticed something was off with you. Tell me honestly, is there a problem between you and Cameron?
“What do you mean it’s better if he doesn’t show up? If he skips the engagement party, won’t that make you a laughingstock in Ronson?”
“What’s there to be upset about?” Looking at Madelyn, who seemed indignant for her, Laura was deeply touched. “Maddie, don’t worry. No matter what happens today, I won‘ t become a laughingstock. Trust me.”
Laura’s indifferent expression and her avoidance of the previous question made Madelyn increasingly suspicious that something was off about the situation.
‘Could Cameron really skip out on such an important day?‘ she wondered.
Recalling some recent rumors about Cameron and Laura that her brother mentioned last night after she returned home, Madelyn was even more uneasy. “Be right back. I need to check something put.”
“Wait…” Laura wanted to stop Madelyn from going through all this trouble, but Madelyn was so action–oriented Successfully unlocked the lounge like a rabbit the
moment she finished speaking.

Less than five minutes later, she returned with a grim face. “Laura, it looks like Cameron did run away.”

But Laura only gave a cold “Hmm,” which totally confused Madelyn.
“Wait! It seems like you already knew that Cameron would embarrass you at today’s engagement party?”
Laura didn’t rush to answer but instead asked, “Maddie, how did you find out that Cameron ran away? How many people know about it now?”
“Oh, I just happened to overhear Cameron’s mom and grandma whispering in the. corner after I came downstairs. They said Cameron suddenly disappeared and they couldn’t find him after almost an hour.
“If he really vanished now, I’ll force my brother to find him and give him a good beating with a sack over his head!” Madelyn was fuming. “Laura, my brother said Cameron might have fallen for someone else. Could that be true?”
“Not falling for someone else, it’s an old flame rekindled.” Laura stood up slowly and walked over to hold Madelyn’s hand.
“It’s okay. I never planned on finishing the engagement with him anyway.”
*What do you mean by an old flame rekindled? I don’t understand a thing.” Madelyn was led out by Laura, still confused.
“All the guests are here, and the engagement party is about to start. You’re telling me Dow that you never planned on engaging with Cameron?
“If you don’t want to get engaged, why even have the party?”
