14.Chapter 14
“Don’t let anyone see her looking glum and with a slap mark on her face on that day.
“After all,” he added with a smirk, “if something like that happens again–it also hits the reputation of the Weaver family.”
Bowen’s words finally calmed Lynn’s anxious heart.
After bidding farewell to Bowen, Desmond looked at Brielle, who was hiding in Lynn’s embrace with imminent tears, an overwhelming surge of anger in him.
Brielle’s crush on Bowen didn’t escape his notice.
If Brielle liked someone else, he could support her, but Bowen? Absolutely no! He was
Laura’s fiancé Cameron’s uncle.
Desmond already felt he owed Laura a lot. Not to mention that from Bowen’s perspective and status, he wouldn’t even be interested in Brielle. Even if he would, Desmond couldn’t make Laura suffer again by putting her in an awkward position.
“Brielle, it’s best to keep those thoughts to yourself.” Desmond took a deep breath and reminded Brielle, “Bowen is not someone you can covet.
“He’ll be your sister’s uncle–in–law!”
“Mom, what is Dad talking about? I don’t understand.” Brielle felt so wronged that she started sobbing, “I just called him by the wrong address. I didn’t think of anything else.
“I hope that’s true.” Desmond narrowed his eyes and sized up Brielle before sighing and softening his tone. “Brielle, remember we all owe your sister a lot!”
“I know, Dad!” Brielle sniffled and wiped her tears as she turned around to go back to her room. “I’m a bit tired. I’ll go to my room.”
Desmond waved his hand weakly, while Lynn looked at Brielle, ready to say something but hesitating.
Back in her room, Brielle shed her earlier guise of innocence and revealed a sinister expression in an instant.
She took out a phone from the drawer, turned it on, and sent a message to some number. [Gilded Cage at 10 AM tomorrow.]
After being lectured by his mom for nearly half an hour about absolutely not breaking off the engagement with Laura, Cameron was finally “released” back to his room at 11
- pm.
Frustrated after washing up, Cameron plopped onto his bed and then decided to get up and open a bottle of wine.
Originally hoping the alcohol would help him sleep, he instead found himself more and

more sober, recalling Laura’s attitude towards him during the day–cold, distant.
She even said she wouldn’t get engaged to him.
Cameron couldn’t help but scoff.
It was just another tactic of playing hard to get. He’d seen plenty of women like that before.
But when he thought about how he had choked Laura, and how she hadn’t struggled even as she was nearly suffocating, her cold gaze at him suddenly stirred an unnamed
emotion in his heart, making him restless.
He closed his eyes and covered his slightly aching chest.
Laura had chased after him for so many years, even going so far as to drug him just to get into his bed. There was no way he’d believe she really wanted to cancel the
engagement.
Still, he wondered if he had gone too far earlier today.
After all, Laura was still his soon–to–be fiancée on the surface.
Embarrassing her in public really didn’t sit well with him.
Just as Cameron was wavering, unsure whether to swallow his pride and call Laura, his phone suddenly rang.
When he saw Julieta’s name on the screen, any guilt he had towards Laura vanished instantly. Disgust slowly crept into his eyes.
Since Laura had done something wrong, and she was no longer the obedient good girl she used to be, as her fiancé, it was his duty to teach her a lesson.
Compared to what she had done to Julieta, what he had done to her was nothing.
“Hey, Julie?” Cameron answered the call in a gentle tone. “Calling me so late, is something wrong?”
