Chapter 3
In the following days, with Grayson’s nightly companionship, Evelyn quickly regained her energy. When bored, she would invite her girlfriends over for afternoon teal]
“Evelyn, Grayson MUST have feelings for you. While you were in a coma, he few to London every few days. He even swore that if you woke up, he’d divorce his wife for your
Aurora happened to be passing by and heard this. Her heart felt as if it had been slashed open.]]
With Grayson absent, Evelyn dropped her act. She called out imperiously: “Rory, this coffee you made tastes like sewage. It’s making me sick.”
Aurora approached expressionlessly to take the coffee away when someone grabbed her wrist painfully.
“What’s your attitude problem? A servant to our Evelyn should be on her knees begging forgiveness if she makes hor sick Acting all high and mighty Following Evelyn’s signal, one of her friends snarled.]
Before Aurora could react, the woman yanked her hair and threw the hot coffee all over her.]
“STOP!”
Suddenly, a male voice interrupted the confrontation. Grayson had just entered and witnessed the scene. He rushed over with a cold expression, palling Aurora protectively behind him.
Whop
gave you permission to bully her?”
His shout had barely died down when Evelyn’s tear filled eyes instantly appeared. She clutched her stomach with theatrical grace: “Grayson! It’s not like that!”
“Don’t blame my friend–she was protecting me… Rory deliberately added dairy to my coffee. My stomach hurts so bad.”
Grayson froze, his scrutinizing gaze turning cold as he looked at Aurora.]
Dairy?
“Rory, I specifically told you Evelyn is lactose intolerant]
How ridiculous. In the span of one lie from Evelyn, he had gone from protecting Aurora to turning against her
“I didn’t do it!” Coffee dripped from her hair as Aurora’s eyes burned. “She’s faking.”
But her explanation was drowned out by Evelyn’s masterful performance, amplified by her friends‘ embellishments…]]
Grayson finally snapped, smashing a coffee cup on the table before lifting Evelyn into his arms and backing: “Aurora Quinn, stay home and think about what you’ve done!”
But Evelyn was clearly unsatisfied, crying, with theatrical vulnerability: “I won’t go to the hospital No one has ever dared treat me like this. I can’t take it, Grayson. Just let me die from the pain.”
As Evelyn threw her tantrum, refusing to go to the hospital, Grayson finally hardened his resolve and called for security
Take Mrg Hart to the backyard confinement room!
The confinement room–a punishment reserved for Hart family staff who committed serious offenses.]
That two square meter sealed chamber would release various insects and vermin.
Aurora trembled and struggled against the security guards‘ grip
“No! I won’t go!”
But no matter how she screamed, the figure carrying Evelyn out of the mansion never looked back
For twenty–four excruciating hours, Aurora curled in the corner of the dark room, enduring the fiery itching on her skin.]
The sensation of insects crawling over her skin drove her nearly insane![]
But no matter how she cried out, Grayson’s assigned guards stood impassively outside the door.
When she finally lost consciousness, she felt the large red welts on her body, too numb to feel pain anymore. Only a single tear slid down her chook
She closed her eyes, allowing despair to consume the last of her love…]]
“Rory, don’t sleep. Wake up, please?”
The familiar male voice pulled her back to consciousness as Aurora’s eyes new open
Above her was the crystal chandelier of the guest room.
Grayson, sitting beside the bed, sighed with relief when he saw her awaken, his tone softening: “I know you’re angry, but you were wrong. Rory. You shouldn’t have harmed Evelyn.”
Waking up to his accdations, Aurora could only laugh bitterly: “You believe her that easily?”
Grayson frowned, oddly impatient: “Enough. I’ve had a master perform rituals for your mother’s ashes at sea. Stop making trouble. Right now, Evelyn’s condition is truly serious…”
“She’s been pampered all her life, and your scare traumatized her. Doctors can’t find the cause, but a spiritual master says the person who harmed her must hand–carve a protective bracelet from thornbushes”
Aurora froze.
So he had kept vigil by her side, waiting for her to wake up, solely for Evelyn’s benefit?
