There would be no tomorrow.
And there was no baby.
I said it silently to myself.”
That night, I booked the earliest flight, packed my things, and left the miscarriage report on the bedside table.}
After sending one last message, I blocked him.}
Ace, let’s get divorced.§
…..
Ace had just picked Faye up from the award ceremony.
She slid casually into the passenger seat, her eyes flicking to the “Wife’s Seat” nameplate with a mocking laugh. “Sister Everly is really something. What century do you think this is, and she’s still playing the spoiled wife?“}
For the first time, Ace showed a flicker of disapproval. “Don’t speak of Everly that way. She loves me too much. And besides, your artwork, you did steal it from her..”
Faye’s lips pouted, her indignation clear as she clicked them. “And you say you haven’t forgotten your wife since we got married? You’re always defending her.”
Ace tried to soothe her, but a strange unease knotted in his chest. “Alright, don’t be mad. If I didn’t care about you, why would I sleep with you, huh?”
Faye melted instantly, leaning over to press a sweet kiss to his cheek.
Suddenly, his phone buzzed several times.
He handed it to her to check.
Faye’s lips curled into a sly smile as she read the messages. “Looks like Sister Everly’s messaging again. She’s probably still mad I used her painting.”
“I’m telling you, spoiling women only makes them worse. Brother Ace, don’t reply just yet.“}]
Ace frowned, memories of his harsh words to Everly and her fierce reaction flashing through his mind. Doubt crept in.”
Sensing his hesitation, Faye leaned in close, her voice soft and breathy against his ear.
“Please, won’t you, Brother Ace?”
She dangled a delicate scrap of fabric between her fingers, her smile dripping with seduction. “Brother Ace, I have a little surprise for you tonight.”
The moment he caught sight of it, Ace’s breath hitched. Everly vanished from his thoughts without a trace.
That night, passion consumed them until the sun had long since risen.
Only then did Ace remember the promise he had made to Everly the day before.
He had vowed to accompany her to a thorough prenatal check–up today. He couldn’t break that promise, not again. Ace rose swiftly, ready to leave.
But Faye, who had woken at some point, clung to his waist and whispered softly, “Brother Ace, please don’t go, okay?”
His mind was a battlefield; on one side, Everly waiting in the hospital; on the other, Faye’s desperate embrace.
In the end, Ace gently pried her hands away and said with firm resolve, “Faye, next time. I promised Everly I’d be there for her check–up today.”
With that, he turned and left without giving Faye a single chance to speak.
Faye’s once sweet expression hardened like ice, a flicker of venom sparking in her eyes. Everly again…
But then, recalling the message Everly had sent, a smug smirk spread across Faye’s lips. She glanced around Ace’s bedroom, imagining this place soon becoming her own.
