The rising sun cast a sharp line between Liam and me, dividing us like a physical barrier.
I stood there, frozen, my throat dry and tight.
“Liam…”
He tilted his head slightly, his beautiful eyes fixed on me, completely void of emotion.
“Are you here to plead for him?”
He nudged Josh’s chair with his foot.
Josh, pale and trembling, looked at me with wild, desperate eyes, as if I was his last lifeline.
How pathetic.
“Liam, listen… I’m not on his side,” I said quickly. “But we can’t go around breaking the law.”
“So, you are here to plead for him,” Liam interrupted, his voice flat.
This version of him felt so unfamiliar, so distant.
The way he looked at me–calm, indifferent, detached–sent a chill through my body.
What could I even say?
If I tried to explain, he wouldn’t believe me. Anything I said would only make things worse, pulling the fragile thread between us until it finally snapped.
I thought he’d yell at me.
thought he’d get angry, tie me up, and drag me home like he always did…
But he didn’t.
23:34 Mon, Apr 7
But ne ain’t.
Instead, he just stood there, quiet and still. And somehow, that scared me more than
anything.
It felt like sinking into quicksand–slow, silent, and suffocating.
After what felt like an eternity, he sighed.
“Lila,” he said softly, “did you know that I love you?”
“I’m scared of a lot of things. And every single one of them is about you. I’m scared you’ll get hurt. I’m scared you’ll lose your way. I’m scared you’ll leave me.”
“For days, I’ve been asking myself… how much do you hate me?”
“Hate me enough to throw yourself away just to get rid of me?”
“And now I know.”
His voice cracked slightly, but his expression didn’t change.
“I know that even if I hold onto you with everything I have, you’ll still walk away.”
“So, Lila, I won’t stop you anymore.”
Liam gave Josh’s chair a hard shove, sending it sliding across the floor.
The sun rose higher, its light spilling into the warehouse, but Liam was already walking away, his figure fading into the shadows.
“You and him,” he said, his voice echoing faintly.
“Live a good life together.”
“Don’t forget to go to the hospital. I won’t be taking you there anymore.”
I stood there, frozen, unable to process what had just happened.
I stood there, frozen, unable to process what had just happened.
It took a long time before the realization hit me.
Liam didn’t want me anymore.
