Chapter 6
Half a month later, in the bathroom, I found a forgotten small surveillance device.
It was from a few months ago when Merrick was injured, and I was worried about him slipping and getting hurt while bathing, so I
installed it out of concern
He said I was being overly cautious, but I was really worried, so I never removed it.
Now, it had become my only lifeline.
removed the SD card and inserted it into my laptop.
My fingers trembled uncontrollably as I hit enter several times. Finally, the screen lit up with that night’s surveillance footage.
In the early morning hours, Liliane entered wearing a bathrobe.
She stood in front of the mirror, repeatedly adjusting the necklace around her neck, then bent down to retrieve a small bottle from under the sink, pouring red liquid into the water, the color quickly spreading
She even deliberately touched up her lipstick in the mirror, her expression completely composed.
Then she sat in the bathtub, took out her phone, and began typing
Soon after, footsteps were heard outside. She quickly made a cut on her hand, then closed her eyes, submerged her face in the water, and gently stirred with her fingers underwater
It was exactly like a pre–rehearsed drama, even the despair performed so convincingly.
I felt cold all over, goosebumps rising layer by layer. “Fake. She never intended to die that day.”
I copied the video for Eleanor–then she called, “Lina, how are things on your end?”
My voice was boarse. “I have evidence.”
“Good.” She paused, her voice lowering. “I’ve also dug up some disturbing things here. The child isn’t Merrick’s!”
My knuckles gripping the phone turned white inch by Inch. “What?”
“We checked the genetic bank records. From a procedural standpoint, Merrick’s sample was never accessed–it was even frozen and archived long ago.” Eleanor’s tone carried a chill. “Liliane did initially try to steal his, but she failed. So she found someone else, but from the beginning, she never intended to tell anyone.”
My heart clenched violently,
The child… wasn’t Merrick’s at all.
She stated, “I suspect Lillane knew you were suspicious, so she orchestrated that allergic reaction when you ‘accidentally went to the park hospital. I just got information from a friend at the hospital. The allergen components from that night couldn’t possibly have existed in your usual perfume. She tampered with the child’s bedding ”
Eleanor added, “Then she conveniently knelt publicly when you came to pick her up trom the hospital, coordinating with the hospital’s widely publicized ‘allergic incident‘ to gradually make you a target of public anger. She wanted to use the child’s “death‘ to completely destroy you
My stomach churned, and 1 nearly vomited.
So the so–called postpartum depression was just an excuse to force me to the hospital!
For this, she even harmed her own child.
said coldly
“Too bad she didn’t die” Eleanor said coldly.

feeling anything
“She’s insane,” I murmured.
“No, she’s very lucid,” Eleanor’s voice came through clearly. “More lucid than any of us.”
I gripped the surveillance copy in my hand, calming myself for a long moment.
Finally, my eyes gradually turned cold. “Then it’s time for her reckoning.”
I spent three full days gathering all the evidence–surveillance footage, hospital lab reports, genetic bank records, allergen test reports -and handed everything to my lawyer.
“We can file lawsuits for defamation, intentional harm, conspiracy to frame, and more,” the lawyer spoke calmly. “We’ll definitely win this case, but it might affect your and your mate’s reputation.”
“It doesn’t matter,” I said softly, but my eyes held no hesitation. “I’m not the one who was wrong
In the past, I endured because I still loved,
Now, I was clear–headed because I felt nothing but disdain.
