I truly had no idea what he was talking about.
What had I supposedly done now that made this guy willing to risk a fight with me just to stand up for his little Rose?
Gabriel took a deep breath and said,
“I’m asking if you’re the one who spread the news about Rose’s pregnancy in our social circle.”
“Are you kidding me? Why would I broadcast that? It’s not even my kid.”
I stared at him in disbelief.
“If it wasn’t you, who else could it be? Rose only told you about the pregnancy.”
“Oh, so you knew she was pregnant and that she told me?”
I looked him straight in the eye.
A flicker of guilt passed through Gabriel’s eyes, but he continued to glare at me accusingly.

I went on, “Doesn’t she know too? And you? Why pin this on me so quickly?”
“Who else would want to ruin her reputation?!”
I laughed bitterly. Why did he automatically assume it was me? He so readily believed Rose and was willing to let me take the blame based on her word alone.
What a farce. How was I trying to ruin her reputation? If she hadn’t done those shameless things, would she be afraid of people finding out?
Gabriel was about to say more, but Rose cut him off.
“Lily, pregnancy is something I wanted to share. I just got back and don’t know many people, so I only told you and Gabe.“”
“If it wasn’t you, who else could it be?”
“Hah.” I couldn’t help but scoff. “You sure love to share, don’t you? Can’t find the baby’s father or mother, so you had to share with me?”
“What, did you think I was an easy target? Coming here to flaunt it in my face?”
Rose’s face went pale as she looked at me.
“Lily, no, that’s not it at all. I truly saw you as a close friend I could rely on.”
“Oh, well thank you so much for considering me such a good friend. Do good friends try to sleep with each other’s partners? You’ve really opened my eyes.”
Hearing my words, Rose’s already pale face now had two perfectly timed streams of tears rolling down. She leaned pitifully against Gabriel.
This damsel in distress act pushed Gabriel over the edge.
“Lily, that’s enough!”
“I can’t believe you’re such a vicious woman. Do you have any idea what Rose has been through?”
