Dad chopped up Mom’s body and put it in the refrigerator. The bloodstains in the house were meticulously cleaned by Dad, making it look as if nothing had happened.
However, Mom had come prepared. To monitor my studies, Mom had linked the security camera to her phone. The footage of Dad killing Mom had been set to automatically record and send.
When the police arrived, Dad was pinned to the ground like a cornered animal. This man, who always cared so much about his image, was now surrounded by neighbors, being pointed at. Dad’s face turned beet red, still trying to argue, “I didn’t kill anyone! You’ve got the wrong person!” He struggled free from the police’s grasp and turned to run. The next

second, he was kicked to the ground. Dad’s head was pressed into the rough pavement by the police, his face covered in dirt. The man who’d always had to be strong, now reduced to a whimpering dog in front of everyone.
The police handcuffed Dad and put him in the patrol car. As the car drove further away, Dad’s voice could still be heard. “I didn’t kill anyone! I didn’t kill anyone!”
The sky blazed crimson with the setting sun. My soul gradually became transparent. Just as I was about to fade away, I heard someone call my name from behind me.
“Lily, is that you?”
I turned, and Mom was looking at me, her eyes brimming with tears.
“Lily, can you forgive Mom?”
“Never,” I said.
A dazzling white light appeared before my eyes. I ran forward quickly, faster and faster. Mom’s voice was left behind. With a final leap, the white light swallowed me.
(Mom’s POV)
I chased my daughter for a long time, watching her jump into the white light. I wanted to follow, but I was trapped outside. My soul drifted in the human world for a long, long time. Years passed, seasons turned. Finally, one day, I saw my daughter again. She had reincarnated into a new family, starting a new life.
My daughter wasn’t good at studying, but she was happy. She would confidently attend parties with her friends, buy
clothes and dresses she liked, and her face would be radiant with smiles every day. Even when she failed an exam, her new mom would just smile and say, “My daughter, being happy is what matters most.“”
One day, her new mom cooked a table full of dishes for her. I thought my daughter would eat the spicy chicken dish first. But to my surprise, my daughter smiled and playfully complained to her new mom, “Mom, I don’t like spicy food.”
I paused, slightly stunned. So, my daughter didn’t like spicy food. But I had never noticed, always cooking spicy dishes to my own taste. As tears blurred my vision, I heard her new mom say to my daughter, “If you don’t like it, we won’t eat it.”
My daughter wrapped her arms around her new mom’s neck, giggling happily.
Every child is born pure and innocent. A mother is their first teacher. Sadly, I was not a qualified mother.
Everything before my eyes gradually blurred, and my soul began to dissipate. In the last moment, I saw my daughter glance in my direction. Her new mom asked her what she was looking at. My daughter smiled, pulled her gaze back, and affectionately hugged her new mom.
“Nothing.”
“Just that I feel so happy right now”
