“Please,” she laughed, “that’s what friends are for.”
I thought, finally, I could have some peace. But the next day, Mila showed up at Chloe’s office.
“You homewrecker!” she shrieked, her hair a mess, her face pale and wild. “Give me back my son!” She lunged at me, swinging her
handbag.
I was caught off guard and stumbled to the floor. She jumped on top of me, raining down blows with her bag. My colleagues just
stood there and watched.
Finally, Chloe pulled her off me, her own face flushed with anger. She slapped Mila across the face. “You! You destroyed my friend’s
marriage, stole her husband, and now you have the nerve to come here and attack her? You have gone too far!”
I struggled to my feet, my forehead bleeding where the metal clasp of her bag had hit me. The old wound between us, now reope- ned with a fresh one. I wasn’t going to take it lying down. “You want to fight, Mila? Fine. Let’s fight. You may be taller, but I’ll take on
two of you.”
Chloe cheered me on. “Go, Viv! Kick her ass! I’ve got your back. I’ve never seen a mistress with so much audacity!”
Mila, seeing Chloe’s fierce loyalty, started to cry. “Fine! Let’s fight! I hope you kill me! You already killed my baby, so I have nothing
left to lose!”
She charged at me, her eyes wild, a woman truly on the edge.
“ENOUGH!”
A sudden, furious roar stopped her in her tracks.
It was Joshua. He strode in, flanked by four imposing bodyguards.
Mila, who had been a raging beast just a moment before, instantly transformed into a meek kitten.
Joshua’s eyes landed on my bleeding forehead, and a look of pain crossed his face. He pulled out a handkerchief to wipe the blood
away.
I flinched back. Chloe stepped in front of me, a human shield. “What do you think you’re doing?”
“I’m just trying to help her.”
“We don’t need your fake kindness,” Chloe sneered. “If you have any decency left, you’ll take this crazy woman and get her out of
our sight forever. You already forced Viv to divorce you, and now you let your mistress come here and hurt her? Have you no sha
me?”
Joshua looked at me, his eyes full of apology. “I’m so sorry. I had no idea… after the abortion… that she would be so unstable, that
she would come here and cause trouble for you.”
I was stunned. “Abortion?”
I looked at Mila. Her stomach was flat. Just yesterday, she had been at least five months pregnant. How could she have had ar
abortion in one day?
“I made her do it,” Joshua said, his voice firm. “That child was a mistake. My mistake. I couldn’t allow it to exist. And not only did
make her have an abortion, I’m sending her away. She will never be allowed to come near us again.”
He gestured to his bodyguards. They grabbed Mila, who started to struggle and scream.
