Chapter 7
Jared accompanied me on all the attractions in the amusement park, and even watched the nighttime fireworks with me.
The fireworks were truly beautiful, but Jared kept looking at me.
“Is there something on my face?” I asked, puzzled.
Jared smiled and shook his head, took out an engagement ring from his pocket, and gently slipped it onto my ring finger.
He said, “Tomorrow morning, I’ll come pick you up.”
“Okay,” I nodded.
I couldn’t help but feel a warmth in my heart, even with a hint of inexplicable anticipation.
The next morning, the villa was empty. Elliot hadn’t returned all night, which saved me from having to explain anything to him.
I picked up my luggage and headed out.
The engagement dress Jared had prepared for me fit perfectly, even though I had never been measured.
Seeing my puzzled expression, he candidly explained, “I got your measurements from the owner of the bar where you used to work. He had the data on hand, so I didn’t need to ask you.”

Although I felt a flush of embarrassment, his straightforward

attitude quickly dispelled my unease.He never seemed to find anything shameful about my past. Of course, I felt the same way. I earned money through my own efforts, and although it wasn’t the most respectable or glamorous work, it was what I deserved. When I put on that dazzling evening gown, the admiration in his eyes was almost overflowing. Even the makeup artist couldn’t help but exclaim: “I’ve never seen anyone with skin so fine that you can’t even see the pores. You look absolutely like a goddess.“Hearing her compliment, I shyly lowered my head.
Jared’s parents had passed away, so this engagement party was hosted by him and his grandparents.
I don’t know what groundwork he had laid, but his grandparents were quite pleased with me.
His grandmother Selene even slipped an expensive emerald bracelet onto my wrist.
I anxiously said, “This is too valuable, I really can’t accept it.”
Selene waved her hand and said, “It’s just a little trinket, take it and enjoy it, don’t worry about breaking it.“.
I reluctantly accepted it.
At that moment, I noticed a commotion at the entrance. Looking up, I saw Elliot and Lucia standing outside, being blocked from entering.

Selene glanced over, then looked away, shaking her head, “Lucia is really going too far. I’ve told her many times to stop pursuing Jared, but she just won’t listen.”
I listened intently, wanting to hear the details.
Selene then slowly explained, “It’s all rather unseemly.
“Lucia has always been clever but stubborn. She’s liked Jared since childhood and has pursued him until now. Just to be in the same class as Jared, despite her poor grades, she insisted on donating money to the school so the principal would place her in Jared’s class.
“Even for university, she had to attend the same school as Jared.
“If Jared liked her, that would be fine, but he never has. Yet Lucia kept pestering him. Recently, Jared couldn’t take it anymore and said he only liked women who already had boyfriends.
“Lucia actually prepared to find herself a boyfriend! Isn’t that ridiculous?”
I thought to myself, “What? Jared seems so gentlemanly, yet he has such preferences?”
I turned to Jared with utter disbelief.
He coughed once and said stiffly, “Grandma, please don’t spread such things. I was only joking, I don’t actually have such peculiar tastes!”

But to Selene, these explanations were clearly inadequate.
In the end, I reached out to soothe his emotions. “It’s okay, I believe you.”
Before he could feel touched for more than a few seconds, I added, “I trust you must have your reasons.”
Seeing his speechless expression, I couldn’t help but laugh.
