Chapter 38: Alexander’s Package

Vivian frowned at Evelyn’s pale complexion and went to fetch a cup of hot water from the counter.

“Drink this to warm your stomach.” She pressed the cup into Evelyn’s hands. “Let’s go to the hospital.”

Evelyn forced herself to stand and followed Vivian out of the café.

Once in the car, Vivian fastened her seatbelt and prepared to turn around.

“Not the hospital.” Evelyn stopped her.

“Look at how pale you are. Stop being stubborn.”

“I’m an OB-GYN doctor.”

Vivian paused, then chuckled. “Right. No resident could match your expertise.”

“Just take me home.”

“Are you sure you don’t need the hospital?”

“Yeah.”

Vivian sighed and started the engine. “At least let me stop by a pharmacy for medicine.”

Evelyn gazed out the window at the passing scenery. “Alexander and Annabelle are at the hospital.”

Vivian’s grip on the steering wheel tightened. She didn’t insist further.

“Stomachache?”

“Probably caught a chill from the rain.”

Vivian drove straight home without stopping.

Half an hour later, a deliveryman arrived with stomach medicine and painkillers.

Evelyn took the pills and drifted into a heavy sleep.

Late at night, her phone buzzed, startling her awake.

“Miss Carter, your package has arrived.”

Evelyn rubbed her temples. “I didn’t order anything.”

“There are several items, all addressed to you with your contact number.”

She suddenly became alert.

The recent name confusion had left her so tense she’d forgotten basic logic.

The doorbell rang.

A deliveryman stood at the door with a large cardboard box. “Miss Carter, please sign for this.”

Vivian emerged from the bedroom, rubbing her eyes. “What did you buy in the middle of the night?”

“I didn’t.”

Together, they carried the box inside.

Vivian swiftly tore open the packaging. “A hairdryer, towels, an umbrella…” She froze. “This bag…”

Evelyn stared at the familiar design, her fingers trembling slightly.

“It’s identical to the one you carried today?” Vivian sounded puzzled. “Who could be this thoughtful—”

“Alexander.” Evelyn whispered.

He had seen her at the hospital entrance after all.
