Chapter 10
That day, Mia accompanied me. When Caleb opened the door and saw Mia, he frowned.
He probably didn’t like Mia, and of course, Mia disliked him even more.
Caleb let me in but tried to block Mia outside.
I was startled and immediately ran out, hiding behind Mia. I was actually a bit afraid of Caleb.
Caleb was too tall, and his presence was too intimidating. The key thing was, I didn’t remember him.
I held onto Mia. If Mia didn’t go in, I wouldn’t go in either. Caleb’s face darkened in an instant.
“Hazel Winters, if you want to see the children today, you can only come in alone.”
“Then forget it, I don’t want to see them.”
1 shook my head vigorously, scared to death. What kind of person was this?
I pulled Mia, wanting to leave. Caleb laughed angrily.
“Hazel Winters, what do you mean? Am I that scary?”
Of course, he was scary. He was nearly six feet tall, big and strong. If he punched me into the wall, I wouldn’t be able to peel myself off.
<
I was very firm, “…I’ll only go with Mia.”
Caleb had a gloomy face, while Mia stared back expressionlessly.
In the end, Caleb stepped aside.
“Come in!”
The living room of the small villa was very large. In the center sat a boy about seven or eight years old. The boy looked very much like his father, and his expression wasn’t very pleasant when he met my gaze.
This must be Zack. Next to him sat a little girl, who must be Ava.
The little girl followed her brother’s lead, looking at me with some curiosity.
“Are you Mom?”
I nodded.
Ava tugged at her brother’s sleeve, “Brother, Mom is… so beautiful now!”
The little boy suddenly shouted, “Shut up! Don’t call her Mom. She’s not Mom anymore. She doesn’t care about you or me. What kind of mom is that? She won’t even let Dad remarry or let us have a new mom. She’s a bad person, she’s crazy!”
My initial expectation dissipated in an instant. I didn’t feel as sad as I had imagined. I still couldn’t remember them.
They looked familiar, but in reality, I had forgotten them completely.
It felt like two somewhat familiar children were cursing at me. I wasn’t angry, just felt bored.
Chapter 11
That day, I stayed at Caleb’s house for half a day. Zack ignored me, and Ava didn’t dare to talk to me.
The most impressive thing about that day was actually how delicious the dinner at Caleb’s house was. The housekeeper at
Caleb’s was also quite young.
She was a girl in her twenties, very pretty, efficient, pleasing to the eye, and an excellent cook.
I was thinking that this housekeeper was really good, wondering if I could poach her.
Until the little housekeeper swayed her hips and insisted on feeding Caleb strawberries.
Mia lowered her head and whispered to me angrily, “What a show–off! She’s the third party between you and Caleb, named Iris. She was your junior in college. With such a good education, instead of working hard to improve herself, she became his mistress.
Crazy.”
Mia’s words were harsh. I rubbed my nose, feeling a bit guilty. Actually, I wasn’t very ambitious either back then, and was quite
lovesick too.
But thinking that I couldn’t poach the housekeeper anymore, I was heartbroken. Then I promptly ladled myself another bowl of
soup.
4:44 AM
<
Halfway through dinner, Mia suddenly received a work call. She glanced at me.
The call seemed urgent, and I guessed it was probably something important. I immediately reassured her, “I’m fine. I’ll go back by myself later. You go ahead!”
“Hazel, it’ll just be forty minutes. I’ll be back to pick you up in forty minutes.”
Mia left in a hurry. After dinner that day,
Caleb looked at Iris, and Iris tactfully took the children upstairs.
Only Caleb and I were left in the living room. I looked at my watch; Mia would probably be back in about ten minutes.
I was thinking, if Caleb hit me, how could I escape out the door as quickly as possible?
Would my martial arts classes be useful? Probably not, considering I was only 5’7” and quite thin. Too weak.
Caleb reached out his hand, and in an instant, I ran as fast as I could. Unable to run out the door, I ran to the nearest room and
locked it.
I hid in the room and heard Caleb getting the keys. I was even more scared, “Don’t come in! If you come in, I’ll call the police!”
Through the door, I heard Caleb’s angry voice, “Hazel Winters, what are you so afraid of? We dated for ten years and were
married for seven years. Are you still afraid I’ll hit you?”

I broke down hysterically, “What do you care what I’m afraid of? Stay away from me, get lost!”
The voice outside the door suddenly softened, “Hazel, what’s wrong with you? How did you become like this? Did someone bully you?”
“Get lost! Stay away from this room until Mia comes back.”
A soft sigh came from outside the door, “Hazel Winters, how can you be so heartless? It’s been a year, and you haven’t come
back to see us once. Hazel, if you beg me today, we could remarry…”
I was so annoyed. I covered my ears and shouted loudly, “Don’t talk! Stay away from me.”
Caleb paused for a moment, and his footsteps gradually moved away.
I leaned against the door, holding scissors, and breathed a sigh of relief.
Mia had actually told me a lot about my relationship with Caleb. According to Mia, I should have loved Caleb desperately.
When Caleb had an affair, I didn’t want to divorce. I would just argue with him like a madwoman. Later, when Caleb got tired of me, he forced me to divorce, and I threatened suicide to stop him.
But it was useless. Later, Caleb filed for divorce. He hired the best lawyer in the country.
In Mia’s words, I loved him so much, loved him to the bone, loved him to the point of forgetting myself.
But after losing my memory, every time I saw Caleb, I didn’t feel sad, just inexplicably scared.
He was so tall, so fierce, always speaking so harshly.
4:44 AM
<
I didn’t understand how I fell in love with such a person. I was an abandoned child in an orphanage, always cautious about
everything.
Any little harm was enough to kill me. I had grown for more than ten years and only dared to make one friend, Mia.
But in these ten years, how did I dare to give everything, have such great courage to love such a person?
I didn’t understand what had happened before, but I was really scared now.
Chapter 12
I had nightmares for several days after returning from Caleb’s house. In my dreams, Caleb was always chasing me.
Later, Mia asked if I wanted to go see them again.
I immediately shook my head, “No, no. He looks like Satan. It’s scary just thinking about it.”
Mia laughed, laughing so hard that tears came out, “Our Hazel has been wronged. Sweetie! I promise you, you’ll never be
wronged again. Things will only get better from now on.”
Of course, I now have $1.9 billion in assets.
Probably seeing that i had been affected by Caleb and hadn’t been in a good state recently, Mia thought for a while and then
arranged a lot of work for me.
I started working overtime too. Later, one day I worked until midnight.
After finishing my work, I leaned back in my chair, feeling completely drained and almost wishing for death.
Now I don’t dream about Caleb anymore, but instead, I dream about work. I work during the day, and in my dreams at night, it’s all work, nothing but work.
Later, I went to find Mia. Mia teased me with a smile, “Oh? Can’t finish your work? Everyone else can finish, but you can’t? Are
you not working hard enough?”
I grabbed her collar and shook her, “Go to hell! You evil capitalist.”
“Alright, alright. Isn’t the holiday coming up soon? Nine days off. I’ll take you on a trip.”
During the holiday, we played at the beach. Mia was afraid I’d get lost, so she even bought me a watch with GPS.
I love the beach the most. At eighteen, I had dreamed of wearing a beautiful bikini and playing in the water.
But when we got to the beach, I wasn’t happy. There were scars on my belly. It was ugly.
I felt a bit upset. I told Mia that it was too ugly, and wondered why I had done this to myself. I had gone through the pain of giving birth to children, only to be met with harsh words.
Mia bent down and stroked my head, “Don’t think like that! You were young then. You bravely loved the world. They betrayed you, but it wasn’t your fault.””
I thought Mia was right and still wanted to wear a bikini that showed my midriff. I used some foundation to cover it up. It wasn’t completely hidden, but it didn’t matter anymore.
We went to a privately owned beach. We paid to enter and there weren’t many people inside.

We went to a privately owned beach. We paid to enter, and there weren’t many people inside.
That day, I excitedly ran into the sea with Mia and played for a long time. I was picking up a particularly large and beautiful
stone on the beach when I turned around and saw that Mia’s expression had turned unpleasant.
Following Mia’s gaze, I saw Caleb looking at me mockingly.
“Hazel Winters, I really thought you had changed. But after more than a year, are you trying to seduce me with this trick again?”
“Disgusting creep…” I muttered under my breath.
Mia was amused by me, “Alright, let’s go.”
I followed Mia back to shore, not wanting to look at Caleb again.
Until Caleb came closer, he looked down at me, and I don’t know what I was thinking that day.
I wasn’t scared anymore, but I was very angry. Why? Why was it such a person who betrayed me?
I looked up and smiled at him, “Why are you here too?”
Caleb looked at me and said in a low voice, “You forgot, this beach originally belonged to me.”
There weren’t many people around. Mia instinctively wanted to take me away, but I broke free from her.
I beckoned, and Caleb bent down to touch my waist.
His gaze lingered over my body.
I smiled as I looked at him, and he leaned in closer.
When he was closest, I smashed a stone on Caleb’s head. Caleb didn’t react in time and lost his balance when I kicked him in the groin, making him crouch down.
I hugged the stone and kept hitting him, once, twice, hitting very hard, all aimed at his head.
He had no strength to resist, so I started hitting his body. Later, it was Mia who hugged me to stop me.
“Hazel, stop hitting him. You might kill him.”
Tears suddenly fell from my eyes, “Mia, I remember how I first met him.”
Chapter 13
I first met Caleb because I was being bullied, and Caleb saved me.
At that time, Caleb was still very young, nineteen years old, coming out of nowhere.
He shielded me behind him and hit the other person with a brick, cracking their head open.
Later, I pursued him and confessed to him. In the winter, I sent him flowers, and he agreed.
He taught me back then, telling me that if I was bullied, I should hit people with a brick.

I turned back and asked him, “Should I hit whoever bullies me?”
“Of course, hit whoever bullies you!”‘
“What if you bully me in the future?”

“Then you can beat me to death. Even if you beat me to death, I won’t blame you. Hazel, I love you.”
The Caleb from back then overlapped with the Caleb in front of me. Caleb’s head was covered in blood, but he looked at me and laughed quietly.
“Hazel, you were afraid of me earlier because you had forgotten, right? I knew it, I knew it. How could you be afraid of me? You love me so much…”

“Hazel, now that you’ve vented your anger, will you come home with me? If you don’t like them, I’ll send them all away. They’ll never bother you again. Let’s just say it was all my fault. Can we remarry?”
Mia was stunned when she heard this. Her voice trembled, “Hazel.”
I laughed and looked at Caleb lying on the beach, hitting him on the head with a stone again.
“Damn it, Caleb, why don’t you just die?”
Caleb laughed, “Hazel, see? You hate me because you still love me.”
“I love your mother! Caleb, a good ex–husband should be like he’s dead, never appearing in front of me again.”
“Hazel, don’t go. I like you now, just like in college, beautiful, brave, and naive…
I hit him with the stone again, “Damn it, if you want to reminisce about your ex–wife, you should honestly die and start over in the next life!”
I got up, dusted the sand off my legs, and turned to leave with Mia.
Mia was a bit worried.
“Hazel, he won’t call the police, will he?”
“Who cares! At worst, I’ll go to jail. I’ll be out in two years. What am I afraid of?”
Mia was taken aback and looked at me with a sigh, “Hazel, how much of your memory has returned?”
“Up to twenty–three. I remember my college days now.”
The eighteen–year–old Hazel was timid about everything, but the twenty–three–year–old Hazel was very brave.
Because that year, Caleb lost money in his business, and debt collectors came knocking. They pressured us day after day, and later, when things got intense, they threatened the children.
<
To protect the children in the house, I had a taser in my left hand and a kitchen knife in my right.
The tough are afraid of the reckless, and the reckless are afraid of those who don’t fear death. I was the one who didn’t fear death.
I was a mother. No one could touch my children unless they killed me first.
Later, those people became afraid and never dared to come close to me again.
At twenty–three, that was probably when I was bravest. I was young then, not even afraid of death, fearless of everything.
Chapter 14
After the holiday, I went back with Mia.
Mia was originally worried that I might want to go back because I had regained my memories, but I didn’t. I still diligently worked at my job every day.
She observed for a few months and finally felt relieved. She started to exploit me again without guilt.
Finally, one day, I worked until 2 AM and looked at her resentfully.
“Come on, we’re childhood friends. Are you really treating me like a workhorse?”
She patted my shoulder, “You’ve already become a corporate slave. Did you expect me to treat you like a human?”
Now I’m like a ghost wandering in the various corners of the company, feeling completely drained.
But this isn’t the most annoying thing. The most annoying thing is that Caleb keeps coming to ambush me every few days.
Sometimes he brings the children. When I see Zack again, I’m a bit surprised.
I walk closer to him, “You really have grown so big.”
Zack turns away irritably, but I don’t mind. I look at him and say softly, “When held you back then, you were just this small. You cried day and night. Sometimes I thought, why are you so noisy? I must have owed you in my past life. But I loved you so much, I could never bear to let you go…”
Zack finally deigns to look at me. I pat his head.
“You’re in school now, right? You’re a big kid now. Seeing you grow up well, I can rest assured.”
He looks at me and suddenly angrily shakes off my hand, “Hazel Winters, don’t think we’ll forgive you and Dad just because of
this.”
He turns and runs to hide in the car. I’m stunned.
Ava, standing nearby, tugs at my sleeve, “Mom.”
I pinch Ava’s little face, “Ava, Mom loves you too.”
Ava is stunned, and suddenly her eyes turn red. Tears start to fall, “Mom… Mom… All the kids in kindergarten have moms. Mom, will you come back?”

His fingers stop in mid–air. He looks at me and smiles, his voice hoarse, “Hazel, let’s forget about those things. Let’s both forget the past and start over, okay?”
In an instant, I explode, “Get lost! Caleb, how dare you betray me? When you were at your lowest point, it was me, me who shouldered everything for you. Back then, you stood on the rooftop and asked me if everything would be fine if you died. I shouldn’t have stopped you then. Why didn’t you just die? I really fucking regret it!”
He was stunned. After a long while, he suddenly mumbled, “Hazel, don’t say that. You lost your memory, so you don’t know what happened after that. I didn’t mean to. I

I didn’t mean for things to end up like this…”
“Is that so? What happened after that? Did I have an affair? Or did you find out the two children weren’t yours?”
“No, nothing like that, Hazel…”
“Then you just decided to be a degenerate?”
I must have hit a sore spot because his tone became harsher, “Hazel Winters, how do you know what I went through? It was you who didn’t come back to turn off the gas. It was your fault. Hazel Winters, how can you be so self–righteous when… it was your fault…”
I laughed, “My fault? Fine, let it be my fault then. After all, you forced me to divorce, and you did all these things yourself. Since you wanted to cut ties with me, why bother contacting me again?”
“Then why do you get to forget everything? Hazel Winters, why do you get that privilege?”
His face darkened, but I just laughed, “Because I’m lucky, because I want to.“”
Go to hell, Caleb. You don’t deserve to bully me.
