“Go on, Mother, I’d like to hear the rest of this.” I put my hand on his thigh. His muscle quivers from my touch.
“I never approached you personally, Rya. I wouldn’t do that. I did help my son decide about this pack. There were many offers on the table for him. He was wanted by many. I told him that I had a good feeling about this pack, that maybe he might find something of worth there. He was on the fence at first. The pack is small. So I mentioned to him he could do it for only three years, give it a chance. We set up a contract. If he didn’t like it there, he could leave after three years. I also had him put in the negotiations that if he found a potential mate that he is free to bring her back here. That she would be allowed to leave the pack to go live where my son decided if he didn’t want to stay. The former Alpha of this pack signed it without question. Imagine my surprise when they told me the contract was not going to be honored.”
“Is that why you pushed so hard for me to come here? You knew she would be coming here. How did you know that I would take interest in her?” It’s obvious he’s feeling slightly betrayed.
“How could you not take interest in her? She’s the most beautiful female I have ever seen, inside and out.” I turn red with the
compliment.
“So what I did was just give you a nudge in the right direction, my son. Just the tiniest push to see if anything could happen between the two of you. If you weren’t interested, then you weren’t interested. No one was forcing you to like her. You did that all on your own. You liked her on the outside first, but bet once you got to know her, it’s the inside that made you like her more.” She’s waiting for his
answer.
“You’re very right, Mother.” He’s looking at me closely. Everywhere his eyes roam, I can feel them on my skin.
“I’m happy that you are giving my son a chance to prove that he can be what you need. He’s a good wolf, Rya.” She gets up and presses
her cheek against his. “We are very proud of him.”
Dallas sits still, his emotions whirling inside him. He’s trying to clamp down on his feelings, not letting anyone see how her words affect him enough to shed a tear that doesn’t come out
“We should go, my male.” Standing, they walk toward the door.
“Rya, consider my offer to you. My hand is always extended your way if you need to take hold of it. I can train you so your tail will never curl under. Imagine that, Bya, never having to be a turn tail to any other wolf besides my son.” A gleam in his eye twinkles out before he turns his back on us, closing the door.
The next thing that Dallas does is walk toward where the blanket and pillow lay, picking them up so I don’t have to touch them. He opens the door, heads to the fire pit, and throws it in to be burned later.
He’s brought a big bag with him. Opening it up, he unfolds his duvet that only smells like him. “I brought you this. Hope it’s okay? You can sleep with it now.” He sits himself on the couch with his feet up, legs spread.
“Come here, Hya.” Ido as he tells me
Making myself comfortable between his legs, I press my hurt jaw against his chest. Placing his blanket over the top of us, I lift my shirt up. He tickles my back, strong fingers with just an edge of nail grazes up and down the length of my exposed skin.
It feels so good to just have caring hands on my hurt flesh. My body melts into his, as if it’s meant to be this way.
When you went to the clinic, did you tell him that you marked me?“. His hands stop roaming skin.
“Yes.” His voice drops low.
“What did he say?” My breath holds in my throat.
“He was conflicted. He understands what’s happening to you. It’s the wolf that doesn’t understand.”
