After the divorce, my ex–husband
regretted it.
Honey, let me tell you, marrying Liam Foster
three years ago was the biggest mistake of
my life.
He was pushing forty, and I was barely
scraping twenty–one, fresh out of college
with dreams bigger than his bank account.
While I was still figuring out if I wanted to be
a trophy wife, I overheard him bragging to his
buddies about me, saying, “Scarlett’s got
nothing but youth going for her. She’s not a
patch on Bethany. I’m starting to regret this
whole marriage thing. Keeping a girl on the
side would be way cheaper. But divorcing
now? The loss is too big.”
Well, screw that noise.
く
The next day, I slid a divorce agreement right
across the table.
When he saw I was walking away with.
nothing, not a single penny, he breathed a
sigh of relief.
Then, trying to look generous, he said, “I’ll
give you twenty million, as a compensation.”
I just smiled, a real “kiss my grits” kind of
smile. “I’m young,” I said. “I can play this
game.”
What he didn’t know was that my brother is
basically royalty in this town.
He’s the reason Liam got anywhere in the
first place.

Divorcing me?
Honey, his losses were just beginning.

During my senior year, I decided to do an
internship.
I wanted to see my hot husband every day.
So, I marched right into Liam’s company.
I kept a low profile.
I didn’t want to bother him or be a distraction.
I’d listen to the other interns gossiping about
Liam.
“Mr. Foster is so hot, 35 is the best age for a
man.”
“Too bad he’s married, and it seems like his
wife is just some nobody.”
“Ugh, why can’t that be me?”
When I was 18, Liam laid his cards on the
table.
He said he was looking for marriage, and
handed me a ring.
I jumped right in.
One year of dating led to a marriage license.
It was impulsive and crazy.
L
But also sweet and happy.
He gave me more of a dream than I had ever
hoped for.
A boss’s love is straight to the point.
Like a flood.
It swept me off my feet.
If I hadn’t interned at his company, I wouldn’t
know the truth.
Bethany.
Liam’s secretary.
Sexy, beautiful, and your typical mature
woman.
Always traveling, always at social events.
She knew everything about the company.
Before Liam married, everyone thought she
would become the boss’s wife.
I overheard senior employees talking about
her in the cafeteria.
“Liam doesn’t know what he’s doing. Bethany
is a beautiful woman and he’s wasting her.”
“Bethany quit her executive position to work
as Liam’s secretary.”
“Just watch. The romance will fade and he’ll
divorce his wife and be with Bethany.”
I didn’t care about these rumors.
<
Liam and I had plenty of romance in our lives.
That is, until Bethany confessed her love to
Liam at a party.
She was basically forcing him to choose.
She asked if he had feelings for her.
He didn’t say anything.
Then, she asked, “If you don’t have feelings
for me, why don’t you approve my
resignation!”
He said one word, “I do.”
Then, he stared into her eyes and said, “|
have feelings for you. I can’t live without you.
Can I not approve your resignation?”
Г
She smiled and chugged her white wine.
Then, she grabbed her bag and left.
Liam chased after her.
The people at the party worked with Liam and
Bethany.
I wasn’t there.
But, a gossipy intern sent me a video.
She asked me, “Do you think something will
happen between Mr. Foster and Bethany
tonight?”
I replied, “No…”
IITboulco adulto who bave known each other
Г
“They’re adults who have known each other
for years. Their feelings are deep. You think
nothing will happen?”
I replied, “Liam’s married, and Bethany isn’t a
homewrecker!”
“You’re right, but we’ll know tomorrow what
happened.”
I didn’t know what she meant by “we’ll know
tomorrow.”
But, I found out the moment I exited the chat.
I got a text from Liam, saying he wouldn’t be
home because of an event.
My heart dropped.
く
I called him.
He didn’t pick up at first.
I called multiple times.
Finally, he answered.
“Babe, my phone was on silent. What’s up?”
I held in my emotions.
“Honey, you’re really not coming home
tonight?”
“Yeah, I’m at a party. I can’t leave. Can you
understand?”
I gritted my teeth and asked, “Are there any
girls at the party?”
He paused and chuckled, “Why are you
checking up on me? You want a video so I
can prove myself?”
I heard rustling in the background, the sound
of an expensive shirt and hotel sheets rubbing
together.
We used to make that sound.
When our love was wild.
“Ugh…”
Liam groaned.
All my questions dissipated.
I had been with him for three years and knew
what that meant.
He was releasing all his pent–up emotions.
He didn’t know I could hear.
Good.
I don’t need to stop him from cheating.
He already did it.
I forced a smile. “No video needed. I’ll go to
sleep.” I didn’t want to see it.
“Have fun. Goodnight.”
As I was about to hang up, he said in a low,
raspy voice, “Babe, we finalized a big deal
tonight. We’ll have to work hard. I’ll be
working late, so don’t wait for me.”
Whether he was working hard or with Bethany
didn’t matter.
